Configuring GoldBolt FaxSkape Fax Server for Faxing with 3CX Phone System

Important: This document was prepared and tested using GoldBolt FaxSkape Fax Server version 7.0 (Build 11307.5). If the GoldBolt FaxSkape Fax Server resides on the same machine as 3CX Phone System, you MUST ensure that this SIP Port is NOT THE SAME as the 3CX Phone System SIP Port. If this is the first time that the FaxSkape over IP is enabled, you must restart the GoldBolt FaxSkape Fax Server service from the FaxSkape configuration or from the services control panel.

Introduction

This document will cover the configuration of GoldBolt FaxSkape Fax Server to interface with 3CX Phone System for sending and receiving of faxes. To achieve this, we need to:

  • Create a new Fax Extension on the 3CX Phone System.
  • Configure GoldBolt FaxSkape to register with 3CX Phone System as this Fax Extension.

Once this is done, creating a DID that routes inbound calls to Fax Extension 889 will complete the receiving part and sending a fax simply requires specifying a destination number that can deliver the call via your outbound rules through a trunk that is T.38-capable.

Create a New Fax Extension

  • Log on to the 3CX Management Console.
  • Select the “Fax Machines” node.
  • Click on the “Add Fax Extension” button and configure as follows:
    • Set the “Fax Extension Number” to a new extension number (in this example 889).
    • Set the “Fax Extension Authentication ID” to the same value as the fax extension number (in this example 889).
    • Set the “Fax Extension Authentication Password” to a strong password (in this example pass889fax).
    • Click “Apply” or “OK” to save your configuration.

Configure GoldBolt FaxSkape to Register with 3CX Phone System

  • Start the FaxSkape Fax Server Configuration application.
  • Go to the category “Fax Server Configuration” > “Device Manager” > “FaxSkape over IP (FoIP/T.38)”.
  • Click on the Options tab.

  • Make sure that the “Enable FaxSkape over IP (FoIP/T.38)” checkbox is “Enabled”.
  • Set the “Listen On” field to the Private IP Address on the FaxSkape Server machine which resides in the same LAN Subnet as the 3CX Phone System machine (in this example 10.0.0.13/255.255.255.0)
  • Set the “Port” field to the SIP Port that the FaxSkape Server will use to accept inbound SIP traffic (in this example 5062). Note: If FaxSkape is on another machine than the 3CX Phone System, the default 5060 port can be used.
  • Click on the “Providers” tab.

  • Click on the “Add” tool button. This will add a new provider.

  • Click on the “General” tab.
  • Set the “Line identifier” to a name related to the 3CX extension (in this example 3CX 889).

  • Click on the “Receiving” tab.

  • Set the “CSID” field to the external phone number that will be routed to this extension. This is optional.

Note: Any changes done to this configuration page will be sent by the FaxSkape Fax Server after a maximum of 1 minute. If you want to set the changes sooner, you can restart the GoldBolt FaxSkape Fax Server service.
