3CX Phone System Version 12 Alpha Available!

We’re excited to announce the launch of the Alpha build of 3CX Phone System Version 12 which features a new unified, multi-platform client, 3CXPhone.

3CX MyPhone and the separate SIP clients have been replaced and merged into a single 3CXPhone client for Android, iPhone and Windows. 3CXPhone for Windows is available to download and is CTI ready, allowing you to control your IP desk phone from the client. The Android and iPhone clients are coming in the next one to two weeks as this isn’t a feature complete release.

What’s New in 3CX Phone System Version 12

We have focused our efforts on improving 3CX Phone System from the users perspective and version 12 certainly gives 3CX users unparalleled mobility and productivity. We’ve really raised the bar on the new 3CXPhone client by giving it an easy to use interface and packing it with features. The new 3CXPhone client takes this version of 3CX Phone System to a whole new level.

3CX is pleased to announced that the 3CX Phone System Version 12 Alpha Build has been launched

3CXPhone is Easier to Use

  • New interface with an improved Android and iPhone user experience.
  • Native app for a more seamless and responsive user experience.
  • Easy call forwarding setup from your smartphone.
  • Many features previously available only via 3CX MyPhone can now be done from your smartphone such as:
    • Set status
    • Login and Logout of queues
    • Be alerted to new voicemails

3CXPhone is Easier to Deploy and Manage

  • Network auto-sensing – 3CXPhone detects if it’s not on the LAN and changes its configuration automatically.
  • Easy one click auto provisioning – 3CXPhone can now be provisioned from anywhere. Users simply click on a provisioning attachment.
  • Improved troubleshooting.
  • Native, easily deployable app. No more silverlight!

Integrated Softphone

The softphones have been integrated into the client and received a major revamp and many new features:

  • Ability to easily perform blind or attended transfers from the interface.
  • Multi Line – 3CXPhone can now handle multiple lines on all platforms – necessary for conferencing, attended transfer etc.
  • Ability to easily create conference calls on 3CX Phone System.

CTI Mode

When in the office, use the 3CXPhone client with your desk phone in the CTI mode to get amazing productivity gains from your IP phone.

  • Call control of Yealink, Grandstream & snom phones.
  • Initiate calls with a mouse click – no retyping of phone number.
  • Easy call transfer.
  • Create conference calls with a few mouse clicks.
  • Uses CTI API on the phone, not call back.

Multi-Platform

3CXPhone is available for all major platforms:

  • Android 2.3 and up – Will be available to download from Google Play soon.
    • Tested on popular Android phones from Samsung, HTC, LG, Sony Ericsson.
  • iPhone 3, 4 and 5 – Will be available to download from the Apple Appstore soon.
  • Windows 7 and 8

Unmatched Mobility with PUSH Support

We’ve taken mobility to a completely new level for users as 3CX Phone System 12 is the ONLY PBX to support PUSH Technology! Both the Android and iPhone clients support the PUSH mechanism, meaning that the client will be activated on an incoming call or chat message.

  • If your phone is in sleep mode, 3CX Phone System will “wake up” the client.
  • Saves battery power.
  • You don’t have to remember to keep it active.
  • Allows users to be reachable via the phone system from anywhere.
  • Slashes company call costs because users can be reached via VoIP.
  • Users do not need to give out mobile number as much.

Unified Communications

The new 3CXPhone is a fully featured unified communications client, not just a softphone:

  • Integrated Presence – check status of other users.
  • Integrated chat, available for all platforms – Coming soon.
  • Easy one click conference call setup – Coming soon.
  • View voicemails and call history from your smartphone & Windows desktop.
  • Ability to set status from your smartphone.

Better Integration of Phones on Cell Network

3CX Phone System now includes a mobile agent which allows better integration of calls forwarded via the cell phone network:

  • Hold or Resume calls
  • Transfer calls
  • More features will be added in upcoming service packs.

IP Phone Management & Security

IP Phone Management
3CX Phone System has made IP phone management drastically easier for the administrator:

  • Firmwares for supported phones are pre tested by 3CX.
  • Easily update all IP phones on the network with a few mouse clicks.
  • No more interop problems as firmwares are validated by 3CX BEFORE their release.
  • This feature will require a valid maintenance agreement.

Security
3CX Phone Systems strong security has been further enhanced with the following features:

  • Default HTTPS – for IIS systems – HTTPS is now enabled and configured by default.
  • Improved security of provisioning folder.

Installing 3CX Phone System 12 Alpha

As version 12 is a major release, a full reinstall is required in order to upgrade from 3CX Phone System 11 to 12 and the following steps are required:

  1. Take a complete backup of your 3CX Phone System 11 installation using the 3CX Backup and Restore tool (Start > All Programs > 3CX Phone System > Backup and restore Tool). Note – this might take some time depending on the amount of voicemails, recordings and call history records. Please note that only backups from 3CX Phone System version 11 will work.
  2. NOTE: If you have a lot of voicemails and recordings, it is recommended to take a backup of these manually and exclude backing them up from the backup and restore. This will save a lot of time during the upgrade.
  3. Uninstall 3CX Phone System 11.
  4. Download and install 3CX Phone System 12 Alpha.
  5. Restore your backup when prompted via the 3CX Wizard.

Downloads

  • Download 3CX Phone System Version 12 Alpha from http://downloads.3cx.com/downloads/3CXPhoneSystem12.exe
  • Download 3CXPhone for Windows from http://downloads.3cx.com/downloads/3CXPhoneforWindows12.msi
  • Demo Key: SAOY-3LMW-U3OT-GLJV

We look forward to your comments and feedback on 3CX Phone System V12 Alpha in the 3CX Forums and on our Facebook Page.

So basically the only new feature of v12 is MyPhone and the softphone have merged? No real changes to the core system’s features or functionality?

    Great news!

    Will 3CXPhone be multi-account ready?
Several clients use multi-account for different purpose.
I think it is since many years on the wish list…

    Thanks, Markus

Glad to see development is so strong – but what am I do do with my Mac users now? They could atleast use MyPhone before and update their presence and send command for Yealink to dial their phone… Now, they have been shut out 100%. I just renewed my maintenance but in good conscious could not upgrade to v12 when released and leave my Mac users in the cold.
Also there seem to be features requested and highly voted on in the past that do not seem implemented – like a voicemail greeting for each status (so we do not have to rerecord based on status).

I am surprised to see that we still don’t have any mention of mobile clients for Windows Phone 8 and also for Windows RT. Microsoft are pushing these devices heavily and 3CX is a Windows based VOIP software system.
Hopefully by the time this gets to Beta or RC we might see a client for the Windows phone/tablet format. Microsoft have already included all of the API’s and there are articles on MSDN on how to utilize these API’s.
Please, if you have not already started development on this then please look into it as soon as possible.

I tend to agree with @Craig – Fantastic development, and clearly a lot of thought is being given to the future of 3cx. Overall great software.

However, we’ve had to abandon our planned roll out which would have involved an upgrade to 512CC addition due to simple request that couldn’t be accommodated like – Different Music on hold for our different departments.

Lets hope they start considering the request be made.

We are looking forward with enthusiasm to commence testing your new sw. A feature we were looking and hoping for in your pre-launch info was the one of “Spoken Absence Information” aka “Voice Intercept Messaging”, but we’re afraid we looked in vain. The feature works as follows: once a user has activated an absence-profile, for instance “In a meeting” and has set a time to be available, e.g. “14:00 hrs”, anyone calling the user on his/her DID will receive spoken information, informing the caller that the person currently is in a meeting and will be avialable again at 14:00. After this info message, the caller gets the option of leaving a voice message to the user, or to dial X to reach the operator. The feature gives callers instantaneous correct presence information without neither having to disturb colleagues of the user having to convey the information, nor switchboard operators to perform manual and repetitive tedious tasks.

Main PBX suppliers (Ericsson, Aastra, Telepo, Siemens, Alcatel etc) and all hosted IP-Centrex/UC-suppliers in Sweden (Telia, Tele2, TDC, Telenor, Telavox etc) and most of Scandinavia offer these features since decades ago. Some systems even automatically detect which country an incoming call is from, giving the spoken absence info in the country’s native language provided the call is domestic, and, for instance, in English if call is incoming from abroad.

Are there any concrete implementation plans for this feature with 3CX, as without it, we currently loose a comprehensive amount of business to competitors in this highly advanced and mature telecom marketplace?

Thanking you in advance for your prompt reply,

    Sincerely,
    Peter Bonde

    • Hi Peter – Thank you for your feedback. There are no plans for such a feature at this point, this is the first request we have had for it.

      May 7, 2013 at 3:35 pm
  8. Features sound great can’t wait to try it out. It would be nice to have a Windows Phone 8 version of the client since this is a windows platform pbx. Plus with windows phone becoming more and more popular especially overseas and number 3 in the US it could really help out with sales.

    Hi James,

Where is the “3CXMyPhone” Silverlight client gone – or is it this 3CXPhone client replacing it? If it is, I really don’t like it – preferred the other style w/silverlight, where you can see Queues, who’s logged in, their status, transfer calls, full call history, see a nice list of voicemails, etc… can you post a picture of the new client please just to confirm that we’re installing the correct one here, and can you post the link to the installation for the v12 client – perhaps I have downloaded the wrong one.

    Cheers.
    Chris

So are these features going to be passed on to 3cx Phone 11? Because I remember there being a video when 3cx 11 saying all of those “MyPhone” features were going to be coming to the mobile client.

    May 5, 2013 at 4:19 am
  11. Thanks to 3CX team for the new version 12 It will be interesting to follow the development of the final version.

I had really hoped for an expansion of MyPhone for a “real switchboard”, with the possibility of such expanded configuration, eg send SMS, Mobile status (gsm) ect.

Beside of that, I´m missing admin friendly improvements to 3CX Management:
Eg. Bottoms, OK, Cancel and Apply, to be rearranged, to always be visible eg. on top or bottom of the page.

Possibility to pause a SIP Trunk

Possibility to quick copy a extension to a new extension

    Other findings
FAX don’t seems to work, did you change port for the FAX?
“L:22.1[Line:10000<<66xxxxxx] failed to reach Fax:888, reason Not Acceptable HereReason Unknown”

I will look forward to hear when someone gets the possibility to test version 12 on Citrix, with several extensions (at least 5) using the system on the same time.

I will look forward to feel next version :-)

    • thank you all for your feedback.

Please note this is an alpha, and not feature complete yet. Some points

@jesper – definitely in the planning to make a bigger screen dedicated to receptionists.
@laurens – good point and will be considered.

Please note this client will be available for Android and iPhone soon, Mac OS and then Windows Phone as time permits.

    Great!

But when will the contact book be updated that could support an user with more then phone number?
It’s a bit old fashioned to have a contact “i.e. John Doe” mentioned two times with his phone number and cellphone number as two separate contacts…

For the rest 3CX is a great product and kudos on the new release!

Since the myphoneclient is removed, how can a queue manager get control over the queue?

Jesper, I noticed on my install that the Fax Extension was not registered under System Extension Status. Once I restarted that single service, it was registered. Not sure if this will help you or not.

Has anyone else tried version 12 yet?

I downloaded it to our test server and from what I can see all the benefits of the myphone app are gone.

    1) viewing/calling phones across a bridge to another site is missing
    2) Expanding the size of the screen so you can view all of your staff at a glance is gone ( this feature was most used by our temporary receptionist so that we didn’t need expansion modules for our phones.
    3) It’s a tiny grey and white screen with no way to change the size of it.
    4) outlook integration is gone
hopefully we can keep using the some myphone app somehow.

    May 6, 2013 at 11:47 pm
    • @jasit – all the benefits are now included with 3CXPhone, available multi platform. It will be possible to show presence of more phones on the screen, just not in the alpha module. Outlook integration is being updated.
@filip – 3CXphone alpha version does not have this function yet but its in development for the beta. The final version will give queue managers full monitoring of the queues
@chris – all the mobility featuers will be in v12. There are no new releases planned for v11 and the 3CXPhone client will only work with v12

So thanks for your reply on my FAX issue.. I just testet on another installation (Win 2012) and it is the exact same “failed to react FAX:888…” My Fax Service is started, and the 888 system ext. is on..

    Did you test the FAX?

What about OSX (Mac) support for 3CXPhone? Is there no client support for Mac now that you are dropping the SilverLight client?

    May 7, 2013 at 6:00 pm
    • @dwhitnet – we are planning a native max OS client with the same functionality as the iPhone client….

I have taken a quick look at the new release. Honestly, there does not seem to be many of the “WoW” features that are in the current Feature Request Queue.

Honestly, I would rather see time spent on more important features, such as more routes per rule(3 just doesn’t do it in some circumstances such as mine where we have a Grandstream and the round robining does not work well for us) or the one feature with 120+ upvotes.

    May 8, 2013 at 7:33 pm
    • @Dan – I think android, iphone , windows clients that deliver the kind of mobility and unified communications that they do are pretty “WoW”. of course opinions may differ but this is the what v12 focuses on.

Glad to realise 3CX Myphone and 3CXPhone have been integrated. It will be very useful if the following are seriously considered to make it worthwhile:
    1. The Presence Information should contain only users online. After all there is an address book which still lists all the users. On the old 3CX Myphone online users were highlighted with green and a text icon if with blue if these were available. At least there should be some form of differentiation if the whole Extension list is shown.

2.3CX tunnel for the new client does not work from remote. I run the same thing on the old version and it works perfectly. The Re-provision URL tends to use the loaclIP. This does not help if you intend to provision from remote. With the old version there was an option to use provisioning from local or remote.

    3. Video support feature is no more working on the new windows client

    4. Conference call is still not working on the new client as per mentioned. We hope it will be integrated soon.

In Summary some functionality has been stripped off on the new client
    -Ability to schedule a conference
    -Ability to change password
    etc

We hope the final release will encompass all these again to make it very usable.

Thanks for the good work so far and keep it up. If I have made any unintended additions or omissions, please forgive me as I gave these comments during my testing phase.

Hi Bernard and thank you for sharing your thoughts and praises. Presence information is being updated and refined with extra features added, conference call will be polished and working on the final version of the client (please keep in mind that this is an Alpha still) and a lot more features will be present, you can be sure of that. Please let us know if you have any other inquiries or and thank you for your comments and feedback

  23. First off – 3cx imho has an awesome development track record for introducing features, fixes and an overall great package at a great price point.

Unfortunately, it really looks like a step backwards for the myphone replacement. Although I was not a fan of Silverlight, it really wasn’t that bad for us, and great that it worked across Macs and PC with a strong consistent user experience. The replacement is unintuitive and very rough, almost to the point it looks like a third party addon. Please don’t overlook how well the myphone works by simply abandoning it for something inferior.

Hi Tim and thank you for your kind words. Please keep in mind that what you are seeing now is just an alpha of what the final product will be. Features continue to be added continually at rapid pace as and improvements and refinements are made daily. I can assure you that you will not be disappointed by the final product. Please let us know if you have any further inquiries.

When might a new 3cxPhoneforWindows alpha build be available? How often do you plan to release Alpha updates for us to test?

I would like to know how I can send the development team some screenshots of some tests I have done so they can know how to really resolve and fin-tune some of the issues faced and make them better

i’m already testing you v.12 alpha…2 major and 1 minor features are missing:

    1) preserving original inbound caller-id & manipulation of outgoing caller-ids through 3CX bridges (routing of remote 3cx host DDI’s…similar acting as SIP Proxy for other 3CX IPPBX Hosts)

    2) 3CX Phone Client for Mac OS

    a) Outlook for Mac/Apple Mail 3CX desktop components.

These are also these points to be considered:

    • Replacing Country Restrictions with Dialing Rules to specify which calls can be conducted
o Restriction of Calls – Numbers and number ranges can be blocked for outgoing calls. You can also use an allow only rule to simplify the task and prevent too many entries. In this manner you can block or allow calls to certain mobile networks instead of blocking the whole country. This will enhance the purpose of having VOIP account which is one major task of cutting down cost feature using 3CX.

Example: A custom rule to allow calls to only BT landline starting with 0208 will be “+442*” with the * representing a wildcard

The above can however be avoided to make it less cumbersome for users by extending the country restrictions to network level

    Example:

    Existing Setting on 3CX

    Region->Country Europe->United Kingdom

    Suggested Setting for New 3CX

    Region->Country->Network Europe->United Kingdom-> Tmobile,Three, Virgin

This will greatly enhance the usage since most users were not comfortable getting heavy bills because they cannot block entire country without loosing clients
