3CX Phone System Version 11 BETA Available!

3CX Phone System 11 BetaThe final version of 3CX Phone System 11 is available from here.

3CX is pleased to announce the availability of 3CX Phone System Version 11, Build 25413 BETA. 3CX Phone System 11 is a major release containing many new features, improvements and bug fixes, including native 64 bit support, inbuilt Video support, numerous queue features,  improved performance and increased security with new features like Pin protection and Country blocking.

New Features in 3CX Phone System 11 Beta

  • Native 64-bit support. On 32-bit systems, 3CX will install 32-bit components whilst on 64-bit architectures, 64-bit components are automatically installed. Only 1 installation package is required.
  • Video Calls Support (Re-invites must be configured on each extension).
  • Ability to dial a dial code (default *5) to hide the outbound caller ID on an outgoing call.
  • Emergency numbers – Users can dial emergency numbers even if outbound calls are forbidden.
  • Receive email notifications of missed calls.
  • Country blocking feature with an email notification when a user attempts to dial a number to a country that has been blocked.
  • PIN Protect Feature – Require a PIN number to be entered before an outbound call can be made.
  • Faster re-registration on bridges and tunnel connections plus the ability to control outbound caller ID at the bridge level.
  • Two new provisioning modes to configure SIP Phones
    • Configure a SIP Phone as an EXTERNAL extension using STUN.
    • Configure a SIP Phone in Out of office mode using SIP PROXY MANAGER.
  • Distinctive ringing – Configure different ring tones for different types of call – from Queue, external, etc.
  • Automatic call unparking to the person that originally parked the call or a configured destination.
  • Ability to create a music on hold playlist, line in, and music on hold for parked calls.
  • Increased number of shared parking places from 10 to 50.
  • Ability to filter out voicemails that are less than a specified time duration in milliseconds. Currently controlled via a parameter in the custom parameter table (MINVOICEMAILDURATION).
  • Option to disable Voicemail PIN Authentication. Useful for 3CX Hotel Module integration.
  • Ability to configure different holiday prompts for different holidays, e.g. Christmas themed messages can be played on 25th December every year, etc.
  • Multiple access by allowed extensions to connect to the 3CX Management Console and 3CX Wallboard.
  • Parking and un-parking of calls is now controlled by rights in the 3CX Management Console Groups section.
  • Ability to hide queue statistics or queue caller ID information per group.
  • 3CX MyPhone Clients – a new node in the 3CX Management Console shows all current 3CX MyPhone connected users, IP addresses, registration times, whether using a browser or installed locally, and whether an update is required for 3CX Desktop Components.
  • Ability to modify custom 1 and custom 2 profiles. These are changed to Available 2 and Out of office 2. For example, out of office 2 can be modified to DND. This profile will be displayed on all 3CX MyPhone users after a re-login.
  • Improvements in ISDN signalling and caller name replacements.
  • If an unknown extension is dialed through an IVR, this call can be routed to a specific destination.
  • Support for Google Chrome.

Queue Features – 3CX Call Center Module

  • Priority Queues – Calls to priority queues are fast-tracked to the top of the queue.
  • Ability to configure a maximum number of callers in a Queue.
  • Wrap-up time persistent across all queues
  • External Queue Agents – Assign a queue extension to a mobile phone for roaming agents.
  • Ability for a caller to opt out of recording (Default key press 3).
  • Ability to reset Queue Statistics on a daily or weekly basis.

3CX MyPhone

  • New skin for 3CX MyPhone.
  • Conference improvements, real time call status information and notification of failed conference calls.
  • Conference scheduling – Conference email sending with .ics files attached to easily update email calendars.
  • Ability to see and delete recordings (controlled by rights in the 3CX Management Console).
  • Tool tips displayed on hover.
  • Ability to transfer a call to another users’ voicemail.
  • Ability to enter presence information in 3CX MyPhone. For example ,”Out of office – Business trip”.
  • Chat indicator to show that a person is available or not available for chat.
  • Chat indication that a user is typing in a chat box and the ability to configure a different incoming chat sound notification.
  • Saving of layout, re-sizing of extension group boxes.
  • Abandoned queue calls and the ability to mark abandoned queue calls as dealt with, not dealt with or dealing with.
    • 3CX Call Center Module only.
  • When a caller has been waiting in the queue for longer than the configured SLA time (service level agreement), a notification is displayed in 3CX MyPhone and a sound notification is also played to attract the agents attention.
    • 3CX Call Center Module only.
  • Microsoft Outlook contact information can be triggered on ringing stage or connected stage.
  • Ability to park calls in 3CX MyPhone to the 3CX Shared Parking Places (Configurable in Settings).
  • Remote 3CX PBX presence support (Available only in the 3CX Pro and Enterprise licenses).
  • Automatic re-connection and sign-in if the 3CX MyPhone app is disconnected or web services are restarted.
  • 3CX MyPhone will automatically connect to local (LAN) or external (WAN) networks. Public IP must be configured in the 3CX Management Console and port 5000 TCP must be opened on your firewall.

3CX Web Reports

  • Web reports – A new web application for creating reports is available and can be accessed by typing into your browser: http://3CXIPADDRESS:5000/reports
  • Multiple extensions can be configured to allow 3CX Web reports access. Login is made by entering extension number and PIN.
  • Filter by billing code.
  • 2 new reports have been added to the 3CX Web Reporter – Ability to generate a report by call type (example national, international, mobile, etc.) and ability to generate a report for outbound calls per group. These 2 reports are available in the Pro and Enterprise versions of 3CX Phone System.
  • Numerous bug fixes in totals and percentages, and reporting functionality shows more information for transfered and queue calls.

Limitations of BETA

  • Missed Call to a ring group does not generate a missed call notification in 3CX MyPhone, nor an email.
  • When a call is made from A to B, transferred to C and disconnected before C answers, a missed call will not be displayed on C.
  • Calls made from 3CX MyPhone are shown as answered even if call is not answered at the final destination.
  • The following sections are not available in the 3CX Management Console when accessed via Google Chrome Browser: Edit Templates, Phone Provisioning templates. They will be seen as grayed out.
  • If 3CX Phone System is installed on a computer that has Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 installed, 3CX MyPhone will not work.
  • 3CX Web Reports: When an external call is incoming to the PBX and forwarded to an extension that is away and forwarding to a mobile, the call will show the correct source and destination but the cost will be 0 for the outbound leg.
  • Incoming Faxes with Broadvox is not working. We have raised a support ticket with Broadvox for analysis.

Installing 3CX Phone System 11 Beta

Since this is a major release, in order to update from 3CX Phone System 10 to 11 a full reinstall is required. The following steps are required:

  1. Take a complete backup of your 3CX Phone System 10 installation using the 3CX Backup and Restore tool (Start > All Programs > 3CX Phone System > Backup and restore Tool). Note – this might take some time depending on the amount of voicemails, recordings and call history records.
  2. NOTE: If you have a lot of voicemails and recordings, it is recommended to take a backup of these manually and exclude backing them up from the backup and restore. This will save a lot of time during the upgrade.
  3. Uninstall 3CX Phone System 10.
  4. Download and install 3CX Phone System 11.
  5. Restore your backup when prompted via the 3CX Wizard.

    Nick – we have three sites the main site is ENT the other two are SBS. We had considered one site but the VPN links are not 100% reliable and we need ISDN backups so three licences works for us.

    In V9 we had the assistant which showed the status of calls at each site, it worked very well. In V10 this was dropped in myphone. We stayed with V9 as long as we could but after an issue with someone trying to hack one of the systems we moved to V10. This move was partly based on the assurance that presence and call info would be in V11.

    I am not actually that concerned about presence ie in/out only the ability to see the call status. Will this available to us without an upgrade?

    If not then I personally feel very disappointed – you would be asking us to pay for something we had in V9, but was dropped in V10.

    Great new features in V11. PIN feature is much needed and I have a client that is going to pull the trigger now that this is included as they have a lot of “common” phones that they want to restrict.

    A little disappointed about the status across MyPhone, especially since I deal in the SMB market where an 8SC license is a fit for 95% of my clients, some of which have multiple locations and have purchased licenses for each location and would benefit greatly from this feature. Any chance this is being reconsidred in the licensing model?

    We use Cisco SPA509G phones and use two of the lower 4 configurable keys to change to avaiable status and out of office status but the buttons do not change color to indicate which is active. Does this update address this? It would be a huge improvment for us.

    Can not wait until the official release!!

    Please please please add forwarding rules to ring groups, this would allow so much more flexibility into the system especially for customers with departments that have different opening hours for example.

    Otherwise great list of improvements, love the distinctive ring options.

    If I promote 1 or 2 trusted extensions to help me administer 3CX,How can I stop his right for example,to not delete or play with the PSTN configuration or to play with outbound rolls and for example if want him just can add extensions only or check and restart system services only.

    For Wallboard: if I have many Queues and I want one extention to login and monitor only the Queues which are assigned for him to see only for example Q1,Q2,Q3 only and he can’t view Q4 and Q5?

    In Report: Must be the same the user Must not be able to view the report about the goups which he is not member with them.

    Last thing is:
    If One manager or CEO need to have Full Right of all the groups. How can I make him a member in all extention groups?

  8. @Arnold – The feature is like this. Multiple access to the management console -> All with the admin rights. Then we will see later how to expand this. But in my opinion this is a starting point. if you do not want the user to play with outbound rules and gateways, then you cannot give him access.

    Wallboard: The wallboard is designed to put on a 52 inch monitor in a call center for everyone to see. If the agent wants to see stats look at the myphone

    Report – Now we have web reports where at least managers can generate reports without asking the admin to generate them. This is a huge step forward. We assumed that managers would generate reports not the common user Joe Bloggs. So we would not grant joe bloggs access to see reports.

    All these should be reported in Ideas. then we will see the votes they will get.

    An extension cannot be a member of multiple groups. It is a current limitation. This is a bit complex to make for the time being.

    • @ Ahmed – this is a major release. Service pack updates will not update major releases.
      Update v10 to the latest service pack
      backup version 10
      install new v11
      Restore backup

    However, I am very interested how FUTURE updates are applied TO the v11 beta
    Is it the familiar method of backup/uninstall/install/restore?

    As it would be same major version, in place would be ideal, otherwise I may wait until v11 final, and the normal SP update process…

    Version 11 is looking great. Just installed it. We have a few clients who are about ready to purchase and I noticed in the install that it is not recommended to install on a server with Exchange, SQL or Sharepoint. Does this mean that we will need out clients with SBS Servers to install on seperate server? In a small office would mean a 64bit Windows 7. be advised rather than the SBS server?

    I have just noticed that it is no longer possible to assign numbers other than 3 digits in ring groups, this was possible in version 10. This is a bit of a pain as I often use a ring group to ring two or three phones for one person linked to their main number. For example.

    200 – Main Office
    201 – Home Office
    202 – Wireless VoIP

    2000 – Ring group to ring all three phones.

    Is there any reason why a longer digit than a standard extension can no longer be used ?

    I understand that after we install V10 for our new clients, we may in the not too distant future want to move them to V11. With that in mind are there any hardware considerations (IP phones, gateways) we should take into consideration? Has all current supported hardware been tested for V11?

  15. @Ryan A beta is not the final release. So we can decide to either make a new build or make a service pack. If you see a new build, you will need to uninstall and install. If you see a new service pack you update to the service pack available.

    @Cindy – It is not recommended to install 3CX on Exchange SQL or Sharepoint because these applications eat up all the available memory that the system has. We got tired of receiving requests stating that they have powerful machines and lots of memory but 3CX is producing jittery audio quality. Only to log in and our dearest friend store.exe eating everything up like a hungry beast.

    @Dave – Depending on the problem. 3CX can work 100% reliably on SBS with exchange and Sql running. But administrators need to know what they are doing. Example limiting exchange caches, tweaking parameters hidden deep in the exchange core etc etc. 3CX support will work like this just to make things clear:
    You report a problem. Normally we ask for the os only in client issues. 3CX Phone System is coded in a very clean way so if a bug is reproducible in 1 OS, it would be a common bug from our experience.
    If the problem is reproduced on Server 2008 for example, then we will still support your case and assist you.

    However If we see a performance issue coming from SBS and you have exchange running automatically the door is shut -> direction for support should go to your network admins. Also as an administrator I still have trouble understanding why 3CX should receive a support ticket in this case. Just look at task manager and you will see the problem.

    @Paul – Yes this was a bug in past versions. There are virtual extension numbers and a global extension number length. If the system is 3 digits long, then ring groups have to obey this. There was a bug in the validation. Is there a reason why you are happy to have 200 as the main office, 201 as the home office 202 as wireless voip and why would you want 2000 as a ring all group? What difference does it make if you have this as 205?

    The reason is for consistency. a 3 digit pbx is designed to understand 3 digits as their local extension numbers.

    OR, will it be required to backup/uninstall/install/restore to move from v11 BETA to the FINAL release of v11 ??

    • @API – Yes the next update will have this. This was a bug in the beta. The DEMO key will unlock the PRO and ENT features. If you do not want to wait for the next update send me an email or open a support request and I will provide you with a patch (a dll that you simply need to copy and replace)

    Some cool improvements, thanks especially for distinctive rings, holiday announcements and improved ISDN (all were awaited fo quite a while). Concerning the presence/status in bridged environments: these are enterprise features, that’s true. But most “smaller” enterprises (in which, form my point of view, 3CX could be found/introduced most often) consist of a larger central system and one or more smaller satellites. So how about enabling these “enterprise features” in bridged systems of non pro/enterprise level, if such a smaller license is bridged to at least one pro/enterprise instance? Just as a suggestion…

    I understand there will be a 2nd Beta release of V11. We are anxiously awaiting a fix where queues’ polling strategy gets reset if no calls come to the queue within 15 minutes. We have commission-based employees who rely on an even distribution of calls. Call volumes are low so the person in the 1st position gets all the calls because the queue keeps resetting. Any idea if this problem will be addressed in the 2nd beta release, and do you know when the release might be coming out?

    • @Meg – Is this problem you are encountering in Version 11 beta? We are not aware of this problem and would like to check it out.
      Are you saying that you would have a strategy for example Ring all, and this changes? Contact me via email please. We have never seen this before and from the way you described it, is technically impossible that idle time will change the polling strategy. What are the strategies in use?

    Having set it that way and telling users with more than one location that they can easily be contacted at any location by simply adding a zero to their main number it is just a pain in the arse for me to reconfigure the systems and for the users to remember a different numbering system, 100 – 1000 and 200 – 2000 is just so simply to remember.

    Technical, as you say I can use a three digit number, it is just that the user experience won’t be improved by it. For users that I have dealt with they find it a simple, intuitive and useful option. From replies to my comments on the forum I don’t seem to be the only person who has made use of four or more digit numbers for rings groups, both to achieve what I have, and generally separate ring groups from extensions.

    And I suppose the obvious argument, it worked fine V10 so if ain’t broke don’t fix it. I think like a few other users, if I could see an advantage to the restriction I might think the loss is worth while. However it seems to frustrate me and others without any obvious gain.

    I have used four digits in 4 V10 setups without any problems at all, and in fact using a backup from V10 it still operates fine in V11 if you don’t want make any changes to the ring group.

    May be a good compromise is an option in the “Custom Parameters” to achieve a version V10 outcome for those now rely on the ability, or separate extensions and ring groups in “Custom Parameters” so different length digits can be used in them.

    In summary the beauty of an windows based IP PBX is its flexibility, so any changes that reduce its flexibility feel like a step backwards. I loose, its looks like other users will as well, who gains ?, because from the forums I don’t the V10 setup caused any operating concerns.

  21. @ Paul – we gain because we keep the system consistent and reduce bugs.
    And you will gain when you and whoever complains about this on the forums start to use 3CX to it’s full potential.
    If it worked for you, does not mean it worked for everyone. You just did not find or meet the bug.

    At setup you select the number length of an extension. 2,3,4 or 5. And you need to stick with this. You cannot have a carnival of extension lengths with 3 or 4 digit. The extension length identifies what is a local distinguished number and everything else is an external number. Your reasons to have this mix up is purely artificial and without basis.

    Really enjoy the 3CX version 11 rollout. The added features is a plus to me and a additional selling point. To be able to pull call records without the need of a third party product is great.

    There is a slight problem with the call transfer feature that I am having in MyPhone. I am not able to complete an transfer to another extension. Either by transfering callers to another extension by drag and drop on another extension in Myphone. Or, by clicking the transfer button and entering an extension. What happens is that the caller gets disconnected and a new call is placed to the intended Recipient.

    Please advice.

    I have to commend the 3CX crew. You guys have been doing a great job on creating even better telephony solutions.

    There was another issue that I noticed. This past weekend was Memorial Day weekend. I set our system up for Holiday mode. The feature worked, a system prompt can on and said, “all offices are closed today”. If possible, can there be an option to have the caller go to another mail box to leave a general message or routed to other option.

  26. @Robert – When it is a holioday, the 3CX Holiday IVR is triggered. You can always modify the ivr that after 2 seconds, Transfer to Voicemail of extension XXX.

    You have full control of this.

    Do I miss something or how can one record the different voicemail messages for the different user states ?
    I have to say, the upgraded video integration works great. Have some Yealink VP530 phones and they work just out of the box !
    Also access to the recording via myPhone and web reports V1.0 is sweet.

    I thought a new feature of V11 is that a user can have different/multiple Voicemail announcement message depending on a state.

    Let’s say if the user state is set to Out of Office all incoming calls can be routed to Voicemail with “Out of Office announcement”, if Custom 1 is set, one can have a “On Annual Leave Voicemail announcement”.

    Current, users have to re-record their one single voicemail announcement message.
