Sneak Preview of 3CX’s Web Conferencing Solution

UPDATE: 18 April 13:15 (UTC +2) All 3CX partners now have a 3CX Webmeeting NFR key, which can be retrieved from the Partner Portal (General tab, NFR license keys section)

We have been working around the clock to complete our much anticipated video conferencing solution, 3CX WebMeeting, which is now available in alpha. You can download 3CX WebMeeting as an extension to your current 3CX Phone System Version 12. By using your existing 3CX Phone System license key, you can activate a WebMeeting account with 3 participants. Simply check the 3CX Updates section and download the 3CX WebMeeting update.

3CX’s video conferencing solution will combine instant screen sharing and classroom features to enable 3CX users to give presentations and training to colleagues and customers.  With 3CX WebMeeting, users will be able to enrich their standard phone calls with video, and even take control of a participant’s desktop to fix or show something on their computer. Web conferences can be launched from the web portal or 3CXPhone client with a few mouse-clicks, and by leveraging WebRTC participants will be able to join meetings without the need to download additional software.  3CX’s easy to use web conferencing solution will enable businesses to save time and money by hosting virtual meetings, whilst enjoying the benefits of face-to-face communication.
We look forward to hear your feedback from the Alpha launch!

  • 3CX WebMeeting Alpha is only available via Service pack updates and only for 3CX Phone System Version 12 installations.
  • 3CXPhone for Windows client is included in 3CX Phone System 12 update and will be updated automatically.

3CX Partners must use their 3CX WebMeeting NFR available from the 3CX Partner Portal, General tab, NFR license keys section.

When you compose the Account URL of your choice, please write the domain name in LOWER CASE LETTERS. We will fix this in the next update. Do not use upper case, spaces or symbols.

3CX Webmeeting does not work in FREE mode, or with a DEMO Key. Do not try and use a demo key because it will create issues.

I managed to fix this problem by uninstalling, making a clean install, applying again the WMA Service Pack and restoring the configuration …
      Hope to be working now.

      April 22, 2014 at 12:43 am
    • method not allowed means that the request was incorrectly formulated. The fact that it worked after uninstalling and reinstalling is just a coincidence. When you have an error, contact us and we will check. In this Alpha stage we are constantly monitoring and it will be a matter of just a couple of hours before we get to you. Just leave the system as it is and reach out to us.

I am currently testing this out, I’ve added my extension to the access list on the management console and have the ability to create meetings.

However when sheduling the meeting it is returning with a message, ‘No users found’. All the users selected are logged in and available on 3CXPhone. Have I missed something?

    April 22, 2014 at 4:02 pm
    • @Alex – No users found indicates some temp connection to the webmeeting api – it would be unable to get the lost of active users from the cloud server.
It can be a temp network connection. Try and close the client and try again.
      Should be solved now. Thanks

      April 22, 2014 at 4:21 pm
    • Were you trying to upload a document when you got the message “no users found”?
If yes you can try again now – we made a fix related to document uploading. No update from your side is required. Just proceed to schedule a new meeting and you should see this problem solved.

How many participants can attend one meeting? Are any limitations?

    April 22, 2014 at 6:14 pm
    • craig

I think your current license is for 3 per meeting.
Additional users will cost $ – but I do not think final pricing has been announced yet.

      April 22, 2014 at 8:14 pm
    • Игорь Снежко

No, I meant how many participans can be in theory? Active participants? Also, if multicasting is planned for unlimited audience?

      April 22, 2014 at 11:57 pm
    • At the moment, the largest license you will be able to purchase is for up to 100 sim participants. Remember that these are our servers so unlimited participants is not going to happen. Then when or if one day we will have an on premise solution, you can decide how many participants you want to have simultaneously because you will be paying the internet bill at the end of the month :-)

    como obtengo el account URL?

    April 22, 2014 at 10:36 pm
    • @Adriana – You make your own Account URL – EXAMPLE adriana or mtmtelecom or whatever you want as long as it follows domain name standards…

getting this error message when trying to login (No login allowed to this portal.)

    April 23, 2014 at 9:23 am
    • @Matt – this blog post is flooded with reasons why you get this message. this is by design. Open your 3CXPhone for Windows and work from there.

  6. Does this work on 3CX Cloud Server?

    April 23, 2014 at 12:16 pm
    • @Ian – absolutely. Give the webmeeting update to the cloud server and off you go. Follow the same procedure as that of the normal 3CX Phone System Installation.

tried to add a user and get:
The users below cannot be added to 3CX Webmeeting because they are already created. If you are sure that these email addresses belong to your company, contact 3CX Webmeeting Support and provide your license key, and account name.

It is only 1 user that I am having this issue with.

    April 23, 2014 at 9:32 pm
    • craig

Actually seems once the user is added, I do not see them in the user list to suspend.

      April 23, 2014 at 9:34 pm
    • @craig – send an email to and tell us what the email address is. Probably it is added by some other account url.

      April 23, 2014 at 11:28 pm
    • craig

I think there is an issue with 3cx retrieving the list of active users. I added another user. Saved it. Closed 3cx console. Went back in and he is not shown in the list. However, both users can indeed access Web Meetings and create them.

      April 24, 2014 at 1:52 am
    • @Craig – when you report something you send an email to webmeeting (like you do) and you add teamviewer id and pass (this is what you dont do). Like this I can go and see the problem because the alpha is alpha and logging is limited. So I need to see the problems. Maybe this is just a refresh problem. What is the user that you added that you are unable to see?

Unfortunately, my co-admin installed this on our production server since we can’t test this with a demo key. This install requires that the 3CX client for windows be updated. However non-admin are prompted for elevated credentials and do not have rights. Is there an updated MSI for the 3cx client for windows so that I can push it out?

    April 23, 2014 at 11:53 pm
    • @Joshua – I am not understanding. The update does not install files outside your users or program data folder. You must have something else going on. the update works the same like all the other 4 service packs before this. Why do you have the problem now? Where is 3CX Phone for Windows installed? Installation path?

      April 24, 2014 at 9:57 am
    • Joshua

3CXPhone for Windows was pushed out using msi default silent install.
      Win7 – c:\ProgramData\3CXPhone for Windows\PhoneApp
      Win8 – same
      WinXP – c:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\3CXPhone for Windows\PhoneApp
Updates from version number 12.0.32495.362 to 12.0.34902.600 in Add\Remove programs. When opening the 3CXPhone for Windows client the user is asked to update. Once they click the check box they are then asked for an ADMIN user name and password to perform the update which they do not have. In short I am looking for a 3CXPhone for windows msi version 12.0.34902.600 so that I can deploy so that I don’t have to manually update 100+ computers.

      April 24, 2014 at 5:18 pm
    • Ok – For now you should be evaluating the software not installing on 100+ machines.
So update the clients that you want and then when the main installation msi is released, then you can use MSI deploy tools to update.
There isn’t an MSI at the moment because we are still in Alpha. When the software is more stable we will update the 3CXPhone MSI package and then you can deploy as you wish.

As I stated my co-admin did the deed. Unfortunately every client is prompted to upgrade. Will uninstalling the update prevent further notifications to upgrade clients? This product cannot be simply tested since it requires a production key and is not invisible to users because it requires everyone to upgrade whether or not they are included as web meeting users.

  9. Игорь Снежко

Please add an email confirmation on invitations. Because I need to know if invitation was delivered / read.

    April 25, 2014 at 1:37 pm
    • Email confirmations is handled by ICS functionality. People should accept, (confirm) Maybe attend or decline meetings and you will get email notifications. If you want email receipts, then you can do this from your email server configuration. This is not something we need to handle.

  10. Hi all, installed and used this yesterday and I have to say it worked very well.

    1. Will production not require any exe install on the client machine, ie be a web app as discussed last October?
    2. Will the production system be able to work on tablets etc?

    April 30, 2014 at 10:03 am
    • @Joe – We are working on this. If 1 will be done, then 2 will follow because if 1 is implemented, then it has to be a browser. if the tablet supports the browser, then things should work without an actual client.

      What browser do you use?

      Safari or google on ipad

  12. Hi, I installed and used it, it worked very well and love it.
3CX just keeps stepping up their game. in 3cx I can manage users and organize meetings from 3CX Phone System.

    July 7, 2014 at 9:55 am
  13. @Nathan – the interface specifies clearly that you CANNOT USE A DEMO KEY. So do not try because it will fail. Maybe the message returned is not clear but the problem is starting because you are using a demo key. Demo keys cannot work because a demo is sent to Everyone in the world whilst for your webmeeting account, you need to have a unique key for your installation.

    April 22, 2014 at 3:02 pm
  14. @Dalton – since when FQDN’s are composed with capital letters? We will make validation to restrict users but in an Alpha stage you need to help the system because it is not complete. Helping the system means using basic knowledge of how FQDN’s are composed. Putting an FQDN with a caps is a mistake. We made an online update now – You need to delete your account and start over again.

    April 22, 2014 at 3:04 pm
  15. @Joseph – We are working on this. Plan is to have a complete web based client. So it will work on all OS’s.

    April 22, 2014 at 3:07 pm
  16. Nathan Williams

Well thats embarrassing. I saw that and for some reason my brain was telling me 3 participants for demo or free. Oops.

    Ahaa, thanks, that make sence..

    April 22, 2014 at 7:42 pm
  18. @Tucker – problem was solved. There was a mix of issues related to Domain FQDN generation – should be lower case.

    April 22, 2014 at 11:57 pm
  19. @Alejandro – Your problems should be solved – thanks for reporting

    April 23, 2014 at 12:03 am
  20. Can you send us your key? We might need to check this.
Sometimes this might happen because the key would have been upgraded a number of times over the course of maintenance from the date the key was issued.
    do the following:
Revert your pbx to Free. The services will restart.
Once the services are started activate the 3CX Phone System with the same key. The services will again restart.
After this go to the Webmeeting node and you should have the Free 3 participant option activation enabled. If not, send an email to and give us your licence key in the email so we can check it for you. Also include a teamviewer ID and Pass so we can connect to your 3CX Phone System Server in case we need to check something.

    April 23, 2014 at 12:06 am
  21. Yes we understand that some companies might not have internet. Well in that case, I cannot imagine how these companies are going to invite external users to join their meetings. They have to interconnect all participants to their VPN and without internet, they will not be able to connect. Remain subscribed to the blog for more notifications. But for now, the solution is cloud based and if there is no internet connection, then meetings cannot take place.

    April 23, 2014 at 12:19 am
  22. @George – Now send an email to and give us all the information you typed including the key you used, Account information you entered etc. Also add teamviewer id and pass so if we need we can connect.

    April 23, 2014 at 12:22 am
  23. Игорь Снежко

I’m not a pro in WebRTC and may be wrong, but external users can connect as they currently connecting to 3CX Phone System – simply by using external Web Meeting server IP or some in-house proxy IP. There is no problem to connect one Webmeeting server to the Internet. The problem is to connect every internal participant to internet also just for Web meetings.
