Comments on: 3CXPhone 4 – new VoIP phone with iPhone look and feel

I’ve been using your softphone for awhile now… I’ve noticed that when we get calls in to the phone there is a delay for the in-coming voice and not for the out-going voice. The delay is sometimes up to one second, but it is manageable. We are using sipgate as an sip provider. When I try other softphones (sjphone, expresstalk, etc…) the latency is worse, so I’d say your phone is above the pack. I’m not sure what is responsible for latency, but from using other softphones I’m guessing the softphone has alot to do with it.

Is there a way to import a long list of contacts into the phone? I’m guessing there is a hidden xml file somewhere that I could modify with excel’s xml feature.

Is there an Apple iPhone App being developed by 3CX ?

I think it very odd that you would go to all the trouble of making a soft-phone skin that looks like an iPhone and then not give us the App for our iPhone…

I think this is a MUST HAVE app, which will put 3CX a huge way ahead of the competition; as there are currently few or no iPhone VoIP clients which allow connection to the 3CX, without the need to sign up to a service like Fring, which at best is useless as there app closes every-time the auto lock feature of the iPhone activates.

@Tony Brown – about AutoPopup issue: it has been fixed meantime (in ver 4.0.10069, at the end of November) so next release will have this issue solved.

I should add this is a big issue at our facility because everyone has headsets which we all leave hanging on a monitor peg until we see there is a call coming in. So the sound isn’t really muted, it just we cannot hear it ringing in the headset. We have no other sound devices to route the ringing to, unless someone knows of a “visual” sound card, but the phone popping up is the most intuitive option I think.

It may look great but there is a problem with this phone. It needs the AutoPopup support. If the phone is up but not visible on the desktop and sound is muted you miss the call because either a) the mini-popup has to come up, or b) the phone4 has to rise to the front. I think this used to work fine with the old phone client when AutoPopup=1

….or it can do it and I don’t know how to do it, but we have added:-

[Global]
AutoPopup=1

to the ini file like the v6 client used to have and it made no difference.

I’ve been trying to use the phone book some… but it’s a bit tough to navigate to it. I would think there should be a button on-screen for it, or at least a hot-key that brings it up.

Where is the address book data stored? I didn’t see it in either the registry or the 3cxphone program folder, which is odd.

For that matter, I don’t see the connection data stored either. Having direct/administrative access to this information would really help with rollouts to a broad user community.

Sorry, I found the calls menu (missed that) but in selecting ‘recorded’ and checking the ‘record as local files’ and making a couple of calls and pressing the ‘record’ function, nothing shows up.

I use it on a stand alone PC and I like the look and it works great, but when I press the record button I cannot find where the files are placed and is there an option to change where the files are saved. I cannot seem to find the recording info in any of the menus.

Please contact technical support as i am sure its something small that could be for example a configuration for an unsupported voip provider that needs to be updated to handle v8 settings.

Good idea, but we dont have a Skin capability yet. Do you have a specific design in mind ? If yes we can consider it if you create the bitmaps for it. We can then make an interface skin for it. For now we have to do this ourselves… i.e no easy interface to do it.

The outlook plugin for v7 doesnt seem to recognise this client. When i drop down the “connect using” it isnt listed whereas the old client is.

I’m going to avoid using the softphone. No, I’m not a fan of iPhone UI mimic. I would have appreciated it more if it reflected your own design, or at least as the default.

Awesome, very well done indeed. This is the type of pizaz with functionality that we need in the field to be able to set 3CX apart from the competition. As usual installation is a breeze and the iPhone skin definately will make many of our softphone users want it just because of the look, Then, when they get to use it and experience the simplicity of making and receiving calls, transferring, placing callers on hold, etc. they will know that the decision to go 3CX was an is the right one. It would be great to be able to place our logo on the screen where the 3CX logo is to keep our nem in front of the user. We would love to have our support number available “in their face,” so they know who to call for more phones, ervices, etc. Making it hyperlink to our web site would be fantastc. Pleae keep up the great work!

Well done, this phone is not only attractive visually, but it’s form and function is going to be great for remote home workers and very little user training required. So a good move there. It’s certainly a lot sexier than the 3CX VOIP phone predecessors. I happen to be doing an in-house 3CX end user training tomorrow for the company, I look forward to introduce this to the remote workers (for testing).
