3CX Raises Bar on Mobile Integration With Cloud Ready PBX

Company sets the pace in UC innovation with new PUSH based smartphone clients, integrated cloud deployment as well as an improved user interface.

LONDON UK 01 SEPTEMBER 20153CX, developer of next generation software PBX, 3CX Phone System for Windows, today announces the launch of Version 14 of its award winning communications solution. The latest release gives resellers the ability to provide both a hosted and on-premise PBX on the same platform; a welcome addition for partners looking to expand their offering to include virtual PBX services.

New iOS, Android & Windows Phone Smartphone Clients

3CX’s completely rewritten smartphone clients for iOS and Android take mobility to a new level thanks to the advanced use of PUSH technology and an integrated SIP tunnel. Smartphone users can now use their office extension anywhere with the same ease of use as a normal cellphone call. Thanks to PUSH, 3CX can wake up the phone in the case of an inbound call and fast registration and response allows the user to answer calls easily.

Nick Galea, CEO of 3CX said:

“Version 14 is setting new standards across the board but particularly for smartphone support. Now with integrated PUSH in our softphone clients, which gives 3CX PUSH messages priority over others, 3CX Phone System is offering unbeatable mobility with your office system at your fingertips wherever you are. Combine this with its ease of use and manageability and 3CX Phone System is unique in the market.”

Integrated Virtual PBX Hosting Capabilities

Additionally, users will now be offered an additional deployment option, allowing 3CX Partners to easily offer 3CX as a hosted PBX. 3CX Phone System v14 can be installed as a Virtual PBX server for up to 25 instances on a single Windows Server, greatly easing on-going management and lowering per instance deployment cost. 3CX offers a true Virtual PBX, different from traditional multi-account systems in that the 3CX PBX services and data stores are entirely separate for each customer.

The addition comes at a time when vendors are seeing an increasing demand for cloud-based business solutions. It is predicted that by 2018 the Hosted PBX/UC sector will have driven over $18 billion in revenue and now, with 3CX Phone System Hosted PBX, 3CX partners will also be able to offer 3CX as a hosted solution along with the on-premise version.

Easier Management With New Admin Features and More Supported SIP Trunks

On an administrative level, 3CX adds improved management features such as scheduled backup & restore, more alerts and a streamlined interface. 3CX also integrates virtually out of the box fault tolerance. With the PRO edition it is now easy to maintain a virtual ‘copy’ of 3CX Phone System as a hot standby and failover in the unlikely event of a server failure. Furthermore, administrators can enjoy a range of additional new features including scheduled reports by email, voicemail and recordings quota management, and many new SIP trunk providers to choose from including Broadvoice, AMcom, Motto, Deutsche Telekom and Time Warner Cable to name just a few.

Improved Integrated Video Conferencing

The company’s integrated video conferencing solution, 3CX WebMeeting, has also undergone major improvements, namely better video delivery due to improved WebRTC support. The software now has new features which are ideal for webinars and online classrooms such as integrated remote control, recording of webinars ready for uploading on YouTube and feedback polling. Additionally, it also offers the ability to hand over meeting control and to pre-upload a PowerPoint presentation in HTML for less bandwidth consumption. Moreover, 3CX WebMeeting is free for the whole company for up to 10 participants and in order to ensure the user experience is a hassle free one , 3CX has expanded their global network of servers to improve local video delivery.

@Sergejs, thanks for the reply. When you set up your 3CX Phone System v14 did you specify your external FQND, when it was requested. If so did you then configure the FQDN using Spit DNS so that the external FQDN resolves internally? As documented here: http://www.3cx.com/docs/creating-fqdn-split-dns/.

I have release candidate V14 installed, however no update appears under 3CX Service Packs/Updates.

How do I upgrade to the release version?

    September 1, 2015 at 1:41 pm
    • Charalambos Eleftheriou

@Chrsitopher, Thanks for the question. If your version number, which is found from the 3CX Management console login screen is v14.044241.523, then you are using the latest version (final release).

If thats true what is different between the RC and This version?

      September 1, 2015 at 9:21 pm
    • Charalambos Eleftheriou

@Matt, Thanks for the question. 3CX Phone System v14 has been fully released. It is the same version as the RC release nothing has changed.

The version is reporting as 14.0.43784.490 but I’m not being offered an upgrade.

I have a customer that really wants the upgrade (it’s the iOS improvements:) they are on 12.5 and they can’t see the upgrade either.

      September 2, 2015 at 2:25 pm
    • Charalambos Eleftheriou

@Christopher, thanks for the question, I not sure i understand what you mean here. You need to download and install the latest version that is available from the post above. If you have an older version then you will need to backup remove, install the new version then configure and restore the backup. To upgrade from v12.5 then please find the instructions on how to do so here:http://www.3cx.com/docs/installing-3cx/#h.o4dqfida1mvc.

    • Hi

We are using version 12.5 and we don´t see any 3CX Service Packs/Updates available

      September 1, 2015 at 8:47 pm
    • Charalambos Eleftheriou

@Nacho, Thanks for the question. V14 is not an upgrade via a service pack from v12.5. To upgrade follow the procedure as documented in the upgrade section of the admin manual, found here: http://www.3cx.com/docs/installing-3cx/#h.tbfd451mjmli.

  4. If I would upgrade my 3cx v12 CLOUD server, would the raspberry SBC’s still connect with it, or would it not work anymore and would I need to upgrade the SBC’s at the same time ?

    September 1, 2015 at 9:58 pm
    • Charalambos Eleftheriou

@Nick, thanks for the question. There is a 3CX SBC v14 for Raspberry PI especially built for v14. You can find the details here: http://www.3cx.com/docs/3cx-sbc-raspberry-pi/.

      September 2, 2015 at 10:20 am
    • The 3CX SBC on a Raspberry PI should be used when the remote office has up to 5 users.

even with the raspberry pi 2 ??
That is a pity, wouldn’t you say?!

So the final release code base is identical to 14 RC? No need to uninstall 14 RC and run this release?

    September 2, 2015 at 1:26 am

@Mike, Thanks for the question. 3CX Phone System v14 has been fully released. It is the same version as the RC release nothing has changed. No need to uninstall.

    September 2, 2015 at 3:04 pm
    • Not yet. There will be though

Is there a timescale on the Wallboard? We want to update to v14 to benefit from the revised reporting but have a busy call centre which is dependent on the Wallboard feature.

  7. There still is an issue with the Gigasets :

    C:\ProgramData\3CX\InstanceXX\Data\Http\Templates\phones\, open file gigasetn510dect.ph.xml in a notepad++, and add below a row :
Then save, and restart server completely.

  8. RC

I just tried upgrading our 12.5 system to 14 last night and had to uninstall 14 and reinstall 12.5 because v14 changed all the ports from 5000 and 5001 to 80 and 443. that would require me to reconfigure all of our routers and vpn rules and change all the 3cxphone clients. is there any way to upgrade to v14 and keep the same port config as 12.5?

    September 3, 2015 at 4:01 pm
    • Paul Sayers

When installing ver 14, did you choose Abyss as the web server which allows you to choose the ports.

Selecting IIS, you are restricted to ports 80 / 443

      September 3, 2015 at 4:29 pm
    • RC

No, I didn’t. Previous versions did not have that restriction. Also, do I have to install the v14 phone client on all machines or do they update automatically when they connect to the server like previous versions?

      September 3, 2015 at 5:11 pm
    • Paul Sayers

The software will ask you to update if it detects version 14

      September 3, 2015 at 6:09 pm
  9. I just updated our system from v12.5 to v14 with no hassle,
backedup 12.5 setup and logs with the backup/restore tool. I then installed v14, did the basic setup to get into the login page and from there chose the backup/restore option(it is now one of the options inside the 3cx, not a loose module anymore fyi!). Took about 10 min to restore the 800 mb file and that was it!

Under Settings/General what happened to “3CX Music On Hold Audio Service”

Please tell me it hasn’t been removed in Version 14…

    September 8, 2015 at 6:30 am

I couldn’t find it but recall seeing that is was removed in V14.

I also would like to know where the Music On Hold Audio Service went to.

      September 9, 2015 at 7:20 am
    • DennisT

The removal of the MOH Service fixes us at v12.5. Why is a feature being removed without an equivalent replacement?

      September 12, 2015 at 12:31 am
    • Charalambos Eleftheriou

@Dennis, thanks for the question. Music on Hold in v14 is still available and features 10 slots available for Wav files as opposed to 5 in previous versions.

      September 14, 2015 at 3:52 pm
    • Chris Jackson

This is different from the 10 different prompts it now allows in v14. There was a separate setting called “3CX Music On Hold Service”
This was useful for making sure that every time someone was put on hold, they didn’t have to start listening to the music from the start an instead started listening to wherever the music had got up to whilst constantly playing.
Really disappointing to see this feature removed…

      October 23, 2015 at 4:29 pm
    • Charalambos Eleftheriou

@Chris, thanks for the comment. You may also post this in our feature request page: http://www.3cx.com/ideas and if it gets enough votes and is technically possible it may very well get implemented.

I am preparing to migrate from v12 to v14. I noticed that the custom parameters tab is missing in v14? How do we access that tab?

    September 9, 2015 at 7:17 am
    • Paul Sayers

Running Ver 14, have custom parameters under Settings -> Advanced

      September 9, 2015 at 1:57 pm
    • Brian

I am running in multi-tenant mode and under Settings->Advanced there is no Custom Parameters tab. In version 12 multi-tenant version it’s there. Any thoughts?

      September 30, 2015 at 12:19 am
    • Charalambos Eleftheriou

@Brian, thanks for the question. Custom parameters are not available within Virtual PBX server instances. This is by design. If you require more specific information please contact your 3CX distributor or open a ticket with our support team.

@John, Thanks for the question. Windows 2008 small business server is not a supported operating system for 3CX Phone System v14. To see the supported operating systems for v14 please see this guide: http://www.3cx.com/docs/installing-3cx/
