Magical 14 – Service Pack 2 Packs a Punch

Under the unassuming name of “Service Pack 2” we have packed a raft of much requested features that sets 3CX apart from the competition and lifts 14 further as a ground breaking release.

Switchboard/Call Management

Drag and Drop

The “Expanded Presence” screen is replaced with a more powerful Switchboard functionality which has the following modes – views:

  • User – shows presence of colleagues in a compact view
  • Receptionist – shows incoming calls & presence to allow for easy handling of inbound calls
  • Manager – merges the Queue Manager & Receptionist views
  • Q-Manager – shows status of queue calls & queues for queue call management
  • Wallboard – for displaying Queue status to agents

Together with the new Switchboard functionality we have added powerful call handling features:

Drag & Drop calls for Quick blind or attended call transfer from receptionist view.
Better view of active calls with better filter options.

More info here.

New Wallboard

Gone is the limited wallboard webview – new is the Wallboard view which packs many new real time statistics.

3CX Wallboard

The wallboard is now a view option from the 3CX Switchboard, so it requires you to maximize the Switchboard on a screen and make it part of the queue. More info here.

Failover

The much awaited out of the box failover functionality is also part of SP2. In SP1, hot standby was already available, but in SP2 you can now monitor the active server from the standby server and start services and run scripts upon detection of a failure. See more info here.

Please note that licensing has not been finalized – it is made available to PRO users right now but might require additional licensing in the future for the standby server.

Management Console Revamp, CDR

The Management Console was given an overhaul, streamlining functions and making it easier to navigate & understand.

The CDR feature has been re-introduced and improved significantly. Better, more detailed logging with easier configuration of what should be logged and in what order. More information here

Jabra & Plantronics integrated drivers have been updated to the latest drivers for improved performance and features. Jabra & Plantronics configuration guides.

Does Failover replicate an exact copy of the main server? Does it sync/replicate voicemails over to the secondary server also?

    • @Premier The backup function does.. Scheduled restore..

      @Premier
Just for a little clarification for you.

The way the fail-over works as of SP2 is utilizing the backup/restore function.
You would schedule a backup on your primary system nightly or however often, which includes voicemail/IVR/configuration and all the components of your 3CX system.

The fail-over server would utilize that backup file for its configuration.

So in a fail-over situation you would not have up to the minute voicemails, you would have up to the last scheduled backup/restore point in time.

The Fail-over is not intended to be a 100% mirror up to the minute system, it is intended to be a backup system to keep you online until you get your primary 3CX fixed.

So far I can’t find the phone provisioning section anywhere in the admin console. What if I need to look up the provisioning URL? It isn’t there anymore. Also, Options to interact with my handsets are all greyed out now in the phones section. I can’t reject a phone, launch the interface, etc. Everything is greyed out.

Also, please stop moving things around so much. Every patch I need to re-learn the web UI because someone has decided that they don’t like where “X” option is located.

Hi Anthony, thanks for the question. You will find your phone provisioning URL under section 5 within the Quick start screen. Regarding the issue with your buttons being greyed out, do you have more than one IP Phone configured on the extensions? As far as moving things around is concerned, this is progress, items are in places where they belong.

I have about 200 ‘unsupported’ phones provisioned, single phone. Everything operated normally before the upgrade. When I select an un-provisioned phone the options operate normally. After assigning a phone to an extension, or for a phone that is already assigned to an extension all options are greyed out.

    Nicky,
You are great. Thanks for checking up and even emailing me! I will admit, it must have been a problem on my end and not with 3CX. Everything is fine. I think it was a DNS issue, a cache issue or even possibly using an old link? Did the management URL change?

Everything is fine, nothing to see here. Thanks for your help and a great product.

I have Nexus 5 and Nexus 5X both on Android 6.0, both using the tunnel for connection, and I also suffer the audio problems described above and in the main forum. Broadband connection at both ends is very high speed and low latency and VOIP not through the 3cx app works at perfect quality.

I have tried the microphone, echo, gain and codec options and they all change things for better or worse but not achieved a satisfactory quality. As it stands the 3cx app can be used for non important short calls to colleagues in the office, but can not be used for longer calls or to clients due to poor audio quality.

Tested to other Android 5.x phones (Komu K70, Komu Color G4, Xiaomi Redmi 3 Note): no one is usable, audio is choppy.

    What the 3CX official position?
Will be a new release soon that fix that?

  9. We have the same issue with Windows 10 x64 and Outlook 2016 x86. Outlook shows the add-in, but it is not dialing as it was prior to V 14 SP2.

  10. We have the same as Efreak with a Nexus 6. Ping times are under 10ms.

  11. Windows 10 X64 and Outlook 2016 x86 works great to dial from Outlook before V14 SP2.
    1. I uninstalled the 3CXPhoneforWindows14.msi and 3CXPlugins.exe. Rebooted.

    2. Today, I downloaded 3CXPhoneforWindows14.msi and 3CXPluins.ex and installed both.

    3. The plugin shows in Outlook Add-ins with the plugin @ C:\ProgramData\3CXPhone for Windows\PhoneApp\3CX Outlook Addin
    4. Cannot dial from Outlook as before V14 SP2
