3CX Phone System 12.5 Leverages WebRTC Technology for Website Click-to-Call & Video Calling

LONDON UK 15 JANUARY 2015 – 3CX, developer of the award-winning Windows VoIP PBX 3CX Phone System, today announced the launch of 3CX Phone System 12.5. The latest version of 3CX Phone System leverages WebRTC technology to offer click-to-call and video calling.

With click-to-call, website visitors can make a free voice or video call directly to a business through the internet browser, without the need to download any additional software. When a visitor clicks on the embedded call button, a VoIP call is initiated via 3CX Phone System directly to the business. With 3CX’s click-to-call function, businesses can also elevate a call to offer screen sharing so customers can be shown new products or offered assistance, thereby providing a personalised customer service experience.

Businesses using 3CX Phone System 12.5 can publish any number of call button links enabling customers to be directed to the most relevant person. As inbound calls via the click-to-call function are free, businesses can reduce the cost of expensive 800 number calls. This new feature also includes a WordPress plugin so that it can be easily integrated into a business’s website.

3CX Phone System 12.5 also provides each extension user with their own personal WebRTC call link enabling users to make video calls. Start a video conference call on the spot with anyone you choose by sharing the call link. This feature adds a whole new dimension to 3CX Phone System, making video calling accessible for all.

Additional New Features of 3CX Phone System 12.5:

    Glad to see the releases keep coming. Keep up the good work.
    Has any work been done with this release on getting the 3cx system to run better on VMware esxi 5.5? I have a post at spiceworks about this and others are getting the same problem with voice mail stutter.

    • @fff This is not a problem related with ESXI 5.5. This can be caused by disk write speed. This can cause the stutters you are experiencing (if every single voicemail has this problem).
      You should also try to see if the problem is reproduced with recording files. You need to check anything that writes to disk.

      I take it that means nothing has been tweaked regarding disk write speed and esxi 5.5?

      We only started having this problem this summer when we migrated from the physical stand alone server to the esxi 5.5 VMware stack. I have tried a number of different esxi 5.5 hosts. All had SAS drives, no other VMs on the host, tried various raid configuration and no change. The recorded calls do not have the issue. It can’t be a bandwidth issue as it happens on internal calls to voice mail. At this point I am moving back to a physical machine to see if that fixes the problem.

      I was just wondering if it made since to try the 12.5 upgrade first and see if that fixed it. I would love to have this virtualized but the users need their voice mail.

    • @fff – I can assure you that there is something with the visualization setup that you have. We have tens of thousands of installations which are virtualized. Complete testing phases are finalized on physical and virtualized machines so definitely it is not an incompatibility between 3CX and ESX or Hyper V. Dig in the settings. Do you have multiple cpu’s? You might need to open a support ticket. Support will be able to get some insight by checking Media Server Logs…

      @fff – how many virtual CPUs are you using on your 3CX server running on ESXi? I’m with Nicky on this one – we run our 3CX Cloud PBX on ESXI 5.5, at the same time have large number of customers we service but we don’t get any issues with voicemails or recorded calls for that matter.

      @Jakub: The host has two six-core xeons but I only have one virtual cpu on the 3cx VM. You think it will make a big difference if I add a second?

      We were running into issues with voicemail stutter as well in our Hyper-V environment. It was related to write disk queue length on the host. Once we pinpointed the problem and corrected it, stutter went away. Check your disk configurations on the controller card to ensure nothing is bottle-necking your performance.

      It did start happening just randomly this summer though, so I’m not sure if there was a tweak to the way 3CX handles the voicemails in one of the updates since it was running fine on that environment for a while and it seems coincidental we got the problem in the same time period. (however, I can’t say what our disk queue length was before we had the problem since we didn’t know to look so there is that…)

      I’ve downloaded the file from products page, having filled out the form first.
      The file I got there is 12.5RC2, which is in line with what you can find on 3CX Phone System Build History website: http://www.3cx.com/blog/change-log/phone-system-change-log/ .

      There is no final release for 12.5 yet.

    Looking good. Been experimenting with the WebRTC and it looks promising, however, I’d say there are just a few features that would make it more worth while.

    1. Option to enable prompting user to type their name and potentially a callback number so that people can know who is calling.
    2. Ability to start chat without calling. (Sort of defeats the purpose of chat, unless I’m missing something since it doesn’t appear to allow me to type before calling)
    3. Prompt for both microphone and video access at the start to avoid user’s missing the video prompt the second time it prompts after the call is already established (nitpicking)
    4. Not sure of the likeliness of this, but option to screenshare the screen of the caller from the browser.

    Other than that, exciting update and can’t wait to see where this heads.

    • Cloud server is not ready for v12.5. Cloud server installations need to remain on version 12 for the time being.

    • V12.5 is a free upgrade as long as you have a valid v12 license. It does not show up in the 3CX Management Console as the features introduced in v12.5 require a re-install. Follow the instructions provided in the admin manual under “Upgrading from a Previous Version of 3CX Phone System”.

  8. Hi , i have try V12.5 on machine for test webrtc and work fine .
    Now i have update old V12 on production to V12.5 ( actually no fqdn configured ) , i have verify that Trunk Webrtc 90000 is not registered is correct ? is mandatory fqdn configured for registration trunk?
