How to make a blind and attended transfer with Snom

Submitted by Elizabeth on July 7, 2010 – 8:52 pm6 Comments

In this example we will demonstrate how to perform a blind and attended (consultative) transfer using a Snom 360. We will assume that an incoming call will be received on the Snom phone which is registered to Extension 100. This procedure applies to Snom 300, 320, 360, 370.

Note: A Blind Transfer is a transfer to another extension without actually initiating a call to the end destination. The call is blindly transferred to the destination.
By comparison, an attended transfer is a transfer where before actually transferring to the destination, the call is put on hold and another call is initiated to confirm whether the end destination actually wants to take the call or not. These two calls are then merged together.

Blind transfer method

Step 1: An incoming call received from John Smith.

Press the OK Button (check mark) to answer the call.

Step 2: Transfer the call.

Press the transfer button to start the blind transfer procedure. At this point, the caller should start hearing music on hold.

Step 3: Enter destination.

Dial the extension number of the person you would like to transfer the call to, in this case 102, and press the OK button.

Step 4:  Call transferred successfully to destination.

The Snom has blindly transferred the call  to extension 102.

Attended transfer method

Step 1: An incoming call is received from John Smith.

Press the OK Button to answer the call.

Step 2: Start a new call.

While still on call, press the LINE 2 button to initiate a new call. This will automatically put the caller – (John Smith on line 1) on hold.

Step 3: Enter destination number.

Dial the extension number of the person you intend to transfer the call to, (in this case 102) then press the OK Button.

Step 4: Destination answers.

At this point we have 2 calls. On line 1, John Smith is still on hold and on line 2 we have a connected call with Extension 102. We will assume that user 102 has agreed to take the call and speak to John Smith.
Press the Transfer Button.

Step 5: Confirm transfer.

Notice that on the display you will see the person that is currently on hold. Press the OK button to confirm the transfer and merge the caller (John Smith) to user 102.
Essentially this process will un-hold John Smith on line 1 and merge both lines (1 and 2) together.

Congratulations: You now know how to perform an attended (consultative) transfer and a blind transfer with a Snom 360 phone.
