Using portable Skype & 3CX to call from anywhere on the road

Submitted by on April 17, 2009 – 1:48 pm3 Comments

Many time its handy to be able to boot up a portable SKYPE instance and call into the office. You just put SKYPE on a USB flash drive, insert this drive in any Windows PC and call to your office 3CX system via 3CX Gateway for Skype. Now you have an additional option to using 3CX VoIP phone.

To do this:
1. Install Skype on your PC and log in to the Skype network
2. Make folder SkypePortable on your flash drive and copy skype.exe to it (you can name the folder as you want)
3. In the SkypePortable folder make folder Data
4. Copy your Skype profile from C:\Documents and Settings\<your_username>\Application Data\Skype to folder Data on the flash drive
5. In the folder SkypePortable make .bat file with text skype.exe /datapath:”Data” /removable
6. Add your company’s3CX Gateway for Skype account to your buddy list.
You are done!

Interesting. Little techie for me, but could be useful.

    I have just 2 questions/observations:
I do not understand line item 5 – in simple English what does this mean?

The last question. If this means installing 3CX Gateway for Skype on a laptop or other portable device for a home or mobile user(s), which could be almost any Windows OS system. I have tried to install on a Vista Home Premium machine and it fails to load – hangs at setting up the user account on the Laptop/PC concerned. Have you experienced this and how do you over come it?

    Hi,

Could you please provide an example. What would this look like?

    6. Add your company’s3CX Gateway for Skype account to your buddy list.

    Thank you,
