Set Up Speed Dials using 3CX Outbound Rules

This step by step guide describes how to set up a speed dial, system based, using the “Outbound Rules” of 3CX Phone System.

Setting up a Speed Dial Outbound Rule in 3CX Phone System

  1. Open the 3CX Management Console and navigate to Outbound Rules.
  2. Click on “Add Outbound Rule”.
  3. Set the Outbound Rule as follows:
  • Rule Name: “Speed Dial **01 – (Number)”
  • Calls to numbers starting with (Prefix):  “**01”
  • Calls from Extensions: (use this only if you want to limit the speed dial usage to particular extensions)
  • Calls to Numbers with length of:  “4”
  • Calls From Extension Group: (Use this if you want to limit the speed dial usage to particular extension groups)
  • Route 1:  Select Voip Provider/PSTN Device
  • Strip Digits: “4” (since there are 4 digits in **01)
  • Prepend: The number you want to set as Speed Dial
  • Press Apply and OK

Repeat the above steps to add more speed dials, incrementing the Prefix by one (eg. **02, **03, etc…)

    I just use a three- or four- digit number (depending on the customer’s setup for exn length) with a different start digit.


    Extensions are 100, 101, 102, etc.

    SpeedDials are 300, 301, 302, etc.

    Don’t forget that you don’t have to use **XX, you can use any two, three or four(or more)digit numbers as long as there is no conflict with extension/feature numbering or existing outbound rules.

    You can also prepend Skype alphanumeric “names” for use with the 3CX Skype gateway (no longer supported).

    A nice work around, would be nice to be able to allocate an existing phone book entry to a speed dial though.
