Automatic server restore from batch file

Postby igor.snezhko » Sat Feb 06, 2010 11:00 pm

It would be nice to make option to restore the server from backup file automatically. The batch should look like this

3CXPhoneSystem8.exe /restore (or /install, or without this) /backup_filename.zip

So in case of failure I can automate the server restoration.

Doesn't the restore command already work? The syntax is:

3cxbackup.exe restore 3cxbackup.zip

Oh, you are right. Heh, overlooked this. So I schedule backup and restore on different server, making some sort of redundancy. Thats great!

What I do is have the system backup the system to a network share that is on the machine that will be my backup system. The backup system just has an unconfigured 3CX system on it. I then have a batch file that uses netsh to change the IP to the original IP of the primary system and do a system restore. Matt has a VB app that does all this as well as a heatbeat so it is more automated, I just haven't had a chance to try out his program yet myself.

Changing the IP address is an interesting solution. But noticed, that last firmware for all Grandstream devices supports Primary and Secondary SIP servers. So if it Primary not answer, they switch to secondary!

Thats fine for phones but if you have SIP trunks or remote users your firewall port forwarding rules would have to change, therefor changing the IP address is a better idea.
