Music on Hold

Postby greenshield » Sat Jan 17, 2009 1:44 am

Please consider making 3CX server work with the IMS music on hold software from NCH software.

The MoH as it is now is way below the standard of what 3CX has to offer. People have been asking for this since ver 3 at least. The lack of Good MoH is a deal killer for me to sell two systems right now.
Thanks

Hi Matt,

Just download IMS and in 5 minutes you'll know exactly what I want. It's perfect.

The main complaint I get about the built-in version.. It always plays the same blasted tune from the same spot every time you put sombody on hold. They hate it. What I don't like? - sound quality is sub par and I don't like having to paste together audio files and constantly rotate them. I know I need to automate this instead of complaining, but as I said earlier.. 3CX is an excellent software package, with I think two major flawed areas:

1) It's way too complicated for users to use park and pickup features. There's no visual feedback and it requires multiple button presses.
2) MoH.

These two really need to be addressed in order to make 3CX a stellar product.

Matt,
At minimum, it needs to be able to rotate through more than one wave file continuously, so that when someone is put on hold they are not always hearing the beginning of the same .wav. Most of the time people are on hold only for 5 to 30 seconds, so having a single .wav with more than one song makes no difference. I also like the way IMS injects messages into the music stream. It gives a more professional appearance to your customers.

Right now I have only one customer on 3CX. I'm primarily a network guy and new to the VoIP space. I have three other customers that I'm talking to about going VoIP with 3CX, but they are waiting for now. One other customer has gone with trixbox through one of my competitors.

The IMS system works perfectly with Response Point sp1. I had it going when I evaluated RP. IMS runs on any server with a sound card and the line-out goes right into the RP server. Couldn't be easier.

Matt,
Actually, I didn't continue with RP. (although I would sell it if I had a customer interested.)
Initially I purchased a 4 extension eval unit from Syspine at Costco. (Costco has a 90 day no quesions asked return policy.)
It was pre-SP1 and while easy to setup, it lacked the ability to use SIP Trunks, and simple control of things such as making the clocks use AM/PM rather than 24hr time. It was easy to use and the voice driven interface worked very well. I was able to put SP1 on it and had CallCentric or NexVortex working on it - can't remember which one. Overall, I like it but I feel it's limited to very small environments.
Anyway, due to the timing of when RP SP1 was released, I had to go with something that could do SIP Trunks. I narrowed it down to 3CX or TrixBox. Since I'm a windows guy, I went with 3CX and signed up as a partner.

I would still like to get my hands on the Aastra RP system for testing...

Yeah ... I agree with this too ... would be great if 3CX could add the buttons to the 3CX Client app ... I think it's short of the "Conf" button too.....

Yes I am trying to convince a customer to use 3CX however the MoH is a big down side for them as they are currently using a very large libary of mp3's and are very happy with this so to go to one repeated tune is a great jump backwards for them.

i also think that the possibility to add more than one musicfile would be a nice feature. and also the intrusion sounds would make the 3cx more interessting for call centers.

To have rotating or randomely music for hold or queues is also on my wishlist for 3CX.
Starting everytime from the beginning of only one music file is outdated.

In the past we'd a Siemens ISDN PBX with a line in modul for music. We connected an MP3 player with a set of different music titles which contained different speakers, different announcements etc.
Everytime a caller was send to queue or on hold, he heard our entertainment program from the current playback position of the mp3 player. This was very nice and our customers had fun listen to different musics and announcements.

Now with 3CX, a caller everytime hear the same and everytime from the beginning. This is unamusing.

A music playlist, like m3u files, would be nice.

And perhaps an option to disable it altogether. Currently I’m using a audio file that has several seconds of silence recorded. We have a call-centre where the agents use an application for managing the contacts. The application uses a MAKECALL api call to dial the number, after which they are temporarily placed on hold (with MOH) and are getting annoyed by the same tunes every time.

Random music would be much more appreciated, but disabling it as well.

We also are getting numerous complaints from customers about the music on hold. Both sound quality (have tried several different types of files with no real improvement) and hearing the same thing from the same point every time.

I have said for a while this needs done. We should be able to upload a pool of WAV / MP3 files and 3CX automatically convert them into the format it likes. We can then order the order they get played in.

We should also be able to upload announcements and order those and set when they get played.

Also, music should start playing when the first person calls up. When new people call up, they should hear the same point as the first caller. When all customers are off the lines, it should start from when it stopped playing on the next person calling.

I agree as well - the current MOH setup where it starts using the same .WAV file at the start-point each time is possibly the one major issue with the current build that makes customers hesitate in proceeding - if we could connect it to a streaming music source or at least allow it to vary .WAV files that it uses as each caller is placed on hold this would represent a major improvement and help us introduce 3CX to more customers.

Multiple on hold. By Trunks

Postby fg » Sun Apr 12, 2009 10:27 pm

Having a company of representations, can have multiple numbers of entry, one for each industry represented.

So: If you call for information on the product of the industry "A", when placed on hold, listen to information about the product represented A.

If you call for information on the industry's product "B", when placed on hold, listen to information about the product represented B.

The current form if the company represents more than a different industry, the wait has to be general or only with music.

Other option for external MOH source.
This will give users to put their choices, such as radio, cd player, etc.

I'd really like to see an option for using an external source (i.e. IPod, radio, etc...) for MOH.
