This is about the little beep that Polycom phones trigger when a user has a message waiting.
Never thought this would be an issue until we had 20 phones on the floor with multiple going off.
Googled around and found that this bit needs to be in you .cfg file:

That didnt work, the phone still beeps.

going by the Polycom knowledgebase (article 11835) but still no joy.

I have a feeling it has to do with the formatting in the polycom.ph.xml, but I have not found a combination that has worked for me so far.
I turn to the forums because 3cx support said they cant help (SURPRISE!) with custom templates.

Any help would be much appreciated.

right idea, wrong syntax.
Seems to have changed in polycom FW 3.3.x

Here is the working:
