Right, I think the call should be initiated when you click on "Record Prompt" from within the admin menu. This prevents accidental overwrites.

Totally agree with the ability to change prompts using an extension. That would definitely add to usability.

Not a top priority but it would also be nice to be able to record prompts remotely in some way as well. Some systems I've used have it as an admin option off of particular voice mail accounts. That way a privileged user can record a prompt while at home without an extension then change it in the admin console. This comes in handy when there are office closures because of weather, disaster or other such things.

I'll add my name to this request. It's definately needed. I suggest, as another person did, to have a button on the admin console to record a prompt from a designated extension.

I would also like to see this feature added, It is something other PBX'es do, and is real simple to execute. The way avaya dose it, while in the voicemail console, you have the option to record directly via mic or type in the extension, the extension rings, the user picks it up, it says record after the tone then press pound. and you are done, the quality of the audio a lot better than one normally gets with a pc mic.

this is very important.

I also think there should also be an embedded player in the manager and myPhone voice message pages instead of opening the computers default player.

Until there is a real answer for this, I did figure out a practical way to record prompts from the the handset without much effort. I setup a digital receptionist with about a 300 second time out period. Then I recorded a basic prompt stating "press record on your Assistant Console to record your prompt", then silence. Then, the person recording just hits record on the active call from the 3CX assistant and starts speaking. When they are done, they just hit End Call on the phone so that the handset noise doesn't get picked up. Then, all they have to do is go to their Recordings folder and grab the file and upload it to wherever it needs to go in 3CX. Not what call recording was meant to do but it gets the job done and I don't have to setup a PC with a MIC for the receptionist to record her greetings.
