Trunk BLF - Line based operation not Extention based

Postby greencorn.co.uk » Thu Apr 02, 2009 8:24 am

Would be good for small businesses to use the BLF of their phones to monitor lines rather than extentions. These types of organisation work in open plan areas and work best with line based PBX systems. They would take a call, put it on hold and saying to thier co-workers "call for you on line x". The BLF's on the phone would monitor incoming lines and allow any phone to pick-up these lines if another phone put them on hold. Hope this is clear - Thanks.

Yes, we agree too.

SLA is something we have been asked about quite a bit.

Just looking into this, it looks as though part of the dependancy here is whether or not the phone handset supports the function.

I can see that the SNOM phones do (refer page 41 of their V7 user manual as follows)

As per below, the main question is; does 3CX have a BLA / SLA resource URI that we could point to to enable this feature?

Shared Line
Note: This feature must be supported by your VoIP PBX (currently available for Other PBX, Sylantro and Broadsoft)
Dependencies: • Context: <SIP Identity>
• Number: <BLA / SLA resource URI >
Description: This key function is used by the “Bridged or Shared Line Appearance (BLA or SLA)” feature which allows users to share SIP lines and also provides status monitoring of the shared line.
Usage: When a user places an outgoing call using such an appearance, all members belonging to that particular SLA group are notified of this usage and are blocked from using this line appearance until the line goes back to idle state or when the call is placed on hold.
Similarly all members of the SLA group are notified of an incoming call and the call can be picked up on a line appearance associated with the SLA extension.
SLA members can monitor the status of the bridged line via the LED adjacent to the free function “Shared Line” key:

• LED “on” indicates the line is in use
• LED “off” indicates an idle status.

I definately vote for this type of a feature. Even if it does become dependant on some handset's, it would help make a key system swap out much easier.

I agree. This would really help sell folks coming from key systems.

Any update on when this is going to be implemented? This is the only reason keeping us from updating.

We are thinking of replacing our panasonic pbx with 3cx in combination with SNOM 360/370 phones.
We want to use some (8) of the programmable keys for Lines instead of extensions. I understand that SLA (shared line) available on Snom phones is an option. Users can see if a trunk is available or in use. Additional to this feature we like to make call parking(which is now not easy to do) simple, just like we have it on our current pbx.
We phone rings, take call by pressing line key, pressing it again places call on park instead of hold. Led blinks(slow/yellow?) on all phones which are in same share. By pressing key(of shared line) on any other phone you'll pickup call/take call out of park.

We use this a lot instead of transferring. We can place a call on hold/park and tell collegue to take call on "line x".
This can also be done by messanging or telling them while they are making a call. Transfering isn't possible because his phone is in use/of hook, so not available. Also it's a easy way to take a call and place on hold/park, go to another phone and pack up the call again.

I'm also very interested in info regarding editing provisioning file for Snom 360/370 to use SLA and trunk BLF.
Is a manual available with examples of programming provisioning files for Snoms.

Best rgds,
