Configuring Counterpath Bria for 3CX Phone System
Counterpath Bria can be configured for use with 3CX Phone System both as a Voice and Video soft phone.
- Ensure that you have created the extension that you wish to use with the phone in 3CX Phone System first. Take note of the ID field and the password that you have entered for the extension.
- Start Bria and click on the File > Account Settings Menu to create a new account.

Configuring a SIP account in Bria
-
Click on the ‘Add’ button followed by the 'New SIP Account' option.
-
In the ‘Account Name’ field enter a friendly name for the account you are creating.
-
In the ‘User Id’ field enter the Authentication ID in the format authentication id@ip of 3CX. Example 100@10.0.0.11
-
In the ‘Password’ field enter the SIP password as previously set in 3CX Phone System.
-
The ‘Display Name’ field should be populated with the name of the user that shall be using the SIP Account you are creating.
- In the ‘Authorization name’ field, enter the extension number. In the ‘Domain’ field enter the Network address (IP or fully qualified domain name) of the 3CX phone system server. If entering an FQDN, review this FAQ.
-
In the Domain proxy section, ensure that you have selected ‘Register with domain and receive inbound calls’. Select ‘Target Domain’.

SIP account properties
- Click OK to save the account. Bria will now show a successful registration with the 3CX Phone System.

-
In The File > Preferences > Devices configuration, set the audio devices you would like to use for Speaker mode and Headset mode. In this screen you will also need to select the Camera you will use for video calls.
-
In the 3CX Phone System Management console, click on ‘Extension status’ node. The extension should be listed, and the status should show ‘Registered (idle)’.
-
From the Bria console enter the extension number you would like to call and hit ‘Dial’
-
Once the call is established click on Actions > Start Video and your video call will start.

Notes:
For the 3CX extensions to be able to hold a Video call, in the 3CX Management Console > Extensions > Bria Extensions > Other, you must ensure that the 'PBX delivers audio' is NOT enabled.
Known issue 1: When a video call is placed on hold and then resumed, the participants of the call will need to click on Actions > Start video to re-establish the video session.
