Introduction

Hot Keys allow you to use a key or a combination of keys on a computer keyboard to control the 3CX client. Using the Hot Key feature, you can make, answer, decline, transfer, place calls on hold or divert them to voicemail. For example, you will not have to open the client in order to press the Answer button; you can answer the call just by pressing the Shift + A combination on your keyboard.

Important: Do not use Hot Key combinations that are used for your Windows system, you will not be able to use them both at the same time.

Configuring Hot Keys

  1. Click the Gears button  to access Settings.”
  2. Click on Hot Keys.
  3. By default the Hot Keys functionality is not enabled. Click on the Hot Key you want to enable and check “Enable keyboard shortcut.”
  4. Select the key combination that will serve as your Hot Key. You can combine Ctrl, Alt and Shift keys along with letters and numbers. Note: Letters, numbers and special function keys (insert, delete, page up, page down and others) have to be combined with Ctrl, Alt and Shift keys in order to create a Hot Key. F1 - F12 keys do not have this limitation.

  1. Click “OK” to save.

Making a Call Using the “Copy numbers from clipboard” Hot Key

  1. Open a web page, text document or any other file and highlight the number that you want to dial.
  2. In this example we selected Shift+V to serve as the Hot Key. Press Shift+V and the number will be copied automatically on your clients dial-pad screen.

  1. Click the Call button to dial the number.

Making a call using the Hot Key (Mac)

If you are using the 3CX client for Mac then you can initiate a call by:

  1. Highlighting the number you want to call.
  2. Press Cmd + 3 on your keyboard.
  3. The 3CX client for Mac will open and your call will be initiated once you click on the call button.

Note: This Hot Key is hardcoded and cannot be disabled.

Hi Frank, The default Hot key to hang up a call is CTRL+Shift+F. From your 3CXPhone, You may need to enable the hot key. To do so, click the gear icon (Settings), select “Hot Keys” then Scroll down and click on the last item “Hang up or decline call” and tick the check box “Enable Keyboard shortcut”, to enable it, then click “OK”. You should now be able to hang up a call using the the hot key sequence. You can also change the sequence if you like.

How do I disable Shortcuts in 3CX Phone for Mac? I need the CMD+3 command to change the view in Finder but it’s overridden by some action I cannot identify in 3CX Phone..

@Ludwig, The hot key is the only one on the that is hard coded into the 3CXPhone for Mac. It can not be changed.

How can we disable system wide shortcuts in OSX? It’s impossible to work while the 3CX phone app is running. We need the CMD+1-N shortcuts for a ton of other programs, like the browser or mail.
If its really hardcoded in the app, might there be a way to suppress this on OSX?

@Tiggvy, thanks for the question. I’m afraid this can not be changed.

Hi. I’m interested to know if there is an ability to use a HOT KEY to quickly grab a call when the desktop app is buried in the background. For instance, pressing CTRL and some other key to quickly answer the call and that same key combination to hang up when finished with the call?

@Marc, thanks for the question. There are already pre-assigned hot keys within 3CXPhone for Windows. To see the Hot Keys that are assigned and make changes click the settings button in the bottom right hand corner (Gear icon) then click Hot Keys.

Charalambos Eleftheriou – Yes, I know how to find the hotkeys through the gear symbol. However, there is no indication as to what the various keys do. The CTRL+Shift+F also (as mentioned in your note to Frank) doesn’t end a call as you described. Can you offer more guidance?

@Marc, Thanks for the reply. Each one of the hot keys describes its function. You do however have to enable them individually by clicking into them and checking the tick box ‘Enable Keyboard shortcut’. You may also assign your own shortcut key combinations.

    • Yes there is “Ctrl + Shift + v”
Go to settings > Hotkeys and you will see them all there.
