The Raphael Hospital, located in Hildenborough, Kent, is a unique, independent hospital specialising in the rehabilitation of adults with neurological disorders. On a foundation of exceptional care and unrivaled facilities, Raphael Hospital has come to be regarded as one of the most trustworthy and cutting-edge facilities in the country.
The facilities include a dedicated physiotherapy gym, hydrotherapy pool and ensuite rooms, but when it came to the hospital’s communications, the system was a little less spectacular.
With 600 people working across the hospital providing continuous care, it was becoming clear that the Panasonic phone system in place was quickly falling out of date and had become too costly for the limited features available.
Including calls and rentals, costs were upwards of £1,000 per month. Not only that, but the outdated PBX wasn’t able to provide enough extensions for the growing number of staff and was too costly to scale. Ultimately, even simple tasks were proving too complicated.
That’s when Jack Wise, Raphael Hospital’s Business and Communications Lead, decided it was time to consider an overhaul.
Jack Wise, Business and Communications Lead, Raphael Hospital: “We’ve been spending a small fortune on a monthly basis for a phone system that lacked the functionalities necessary to maintain our position as a market leading provider. When looking at 3CX, it was partly cost, partly functionality, but a perfect fit.”
Seamless installation with zero downtime
Downtime is a disaster waiting to happen for any business, but in a hospital setting, the impact could put lives at risk. It’s with this attitude that Jack Wise approached 3CX, looking for an installation that would incur no downtime or threaten operations. Fortunately, 3CX operates on the most popular operating systems available today. It can be fully installed, integrated and launched in just several hours, forcing no network downtime in the process. And because it was intuitively designed for ease of use, hospital staff required no additional training time to learn the new, feature-rich system – an important factor in allowing staff to resume critical services as usual.
Modern and cost-effective solutions, STAT
Upon successful deployment of Raphael Hospital’s new 3CX PBX by verified Platinum Partner, Fluent Technologies, 3CX took control over the hospitals 253 Yealink T42 and T48 IP phones and 30 phone lines, as well as its Gamma Telecom gateway. Jack Wise notes that the impact of integrating 3CX provided an immediate result.
“Our costs were reduced to less than £300 per month. We also have significantly reduced our IT administration, with one company doing all the work. Tasks are now completed more easily, as we have more telephony in more locations,” Jack stated. “Home and remote workers are even now part of our system.”
But the biggest part of the system, Jack noted, was the ability to communicate with all sites and staff at no additional cost. As they expanded, they needed a system that could scale with the hospital.
“3CX was a breath of fresh air,” Jack finished. “It is easy, powerful, and gets the job done with minimal fuss. All our telephony overheads have dropped significantly, and our sites have now been bridged together. Let alone the video conference system, which is even helping sustainability efforts in terms of our carbon footprint.”
