i have inquiries about how to design and hardware spec
my client have requirement use 2,500 IP-Phone 2 Trunk ( 2 E1) we concern about hardware and NIC Card.

Please advice how to design and hardware specifications (brand and model)

your thunks are with a local gateway or VoIP Provider?
Are all extensions local or remote?
will you use call recording?

  • local gateway
  • extensions local
  • no recording

Hi monsterconnect,

For specifying this requirement, you need to do a few things:

* Firstly understand what the maximum call count is going to be. As you are probably aware 3CX works on Simultaneous calls (not per user basis) so you need to know what the peak call rate will be.

* From there you can spec the server based on the hardware specifications in this guide:
https://www.3cx.com/docs/recommended-hardware-specifications-for-3cx/

* For end-points I would always suggest a fully supported phone - if the extension are all local then fantastic! You can use PnP provisioning to have a nice easy installation of them.
https://www.3cx.com/docs/manual/configuring-ip-phones/

I am a Yealink man, but you can choose any from this list: https://www.3cx.com/sip-phones/

* Why are you using PRI/ISDN ? SIP trunks would be the obvious choice (unless your client is stuck in a contract) SIP trunks are much cheaper and offer more flexibility.

If you do want to go with the ISDN gateway however I suggest Patton - they are great products and are auto-configurable from 3CX: https://www.3cx.com/voip-gateways/

* I would also suggest perusing the supported network list and confirming that it complies with that of your customer requirement: https://www.3cx.com/blog/docs/network-configurations-supported-3cx-phone-system/

And also confirm if/whether your customer needs anything else (such as FAX machines, PDQ, PCI compliance recording etc).

thank for response
actually we concern about congestion network interface (NIC)
how to bandwidth calculator local area and Simultaneous Calls calculator

please advise solutions me.

You could also get a dedicated Sip Trunk from your local TelCo provider or others.

Hi,

your bandwidth need depends on the used codec.

I see you are migrating from ISDN and then you have to calculate with G.711 with a bandwidth need of 64 kbit/s. You have 2 channels and some overhead for SIP so you can say it's about 200 kbit/s per call

You can take the "Hardware requirements" from the 3CX side for 512 calls, double RAM and CPU and you should be safe.

Regards

Dont worry about the NIC of the server, as you have a local PSTN gateway and local Phones, the phones will talk SIP to the server (nominal traffic) and Audio direct with the gateway (this is the load).
As call recording is not on, the server does the routing and the data flow is different.
