Hello 3cx team,

As per the following link, Polycom IP Phones support is marked as "Legacy", i.e. limited feature set and support.
https://www.3cx.com/sip-phones/
We may be considering purchasing some more Polycoms VVX 601.
Are they about to be out of support?
In such case, we might need to consider different supported vendors, so your roadmap on IP Phones is important for us to know.

Thank you and best regards,
George

Hello @George Tsionos

Please note that VVX devices had functionality added in the latest release in the form of SBC provisioning so it doesn't seem that they will be out of support any time soon, however if you are planning to buy new devices and you want to be able to use the full feature set i would recommend going for fully supported devices.

Hi George,

I concur with YiannisH_3CX. The relationship between 3CX and Polycom has been an on-again-off-again relationship. While Polycom makes some excellent phones, the fact is that there has to be a level of cooperation between the phone manufacturer and 3CX for all the features to work. While I don't have any inside information about the relationship, I suspect that 3CX is not receiving the level of integration support from Polycom necessary to enable all the features and this seems to be a long running pattern. My suggestion is that you select one of the fully supported phones.

As above, I would look at changing your preferred phones to ones which are fully supported

You have a few manufactures to look at https://www.3cx.com/sip-phones/

I am Having A hard time setting up my Polycom VVX400 the instructions I found isn't very helpful, theirs a lot of assumption that the person who is setting up the phone is a professional ip installer

Step 1: Download Firmware & Copy to Provisioning Directory
where is the Provisioning Directory ? I have made sure the phone is updated to 5.6.0

2.Find the provisioning folder of your 3CX Install – by default it is something like:
C:programData3CXInstance1DataHttpInterfaceprovisioningXXXXXX.

Step 4: Set the provisioning link using DHCP Option 66
I have no idea what that means

I would really like for someone to talk me through this over the phone. And I have some Mitel 5340 IP phones is there any way to ibe able to use those?

In the end you can use any compliant equipment and get it to work. BUT... You may have issues going forward. A 1950 pickup truck will work, but when it breaks you're going to have problems finding parts and repairs are gonna cost you.

Is your business going to spend $500 in support costs to get those phones working or pay $150 for a brand new one?

You need to download the files linked in the guide and copy them in the provisioning folder of the PBX.
If you are using windows then the path should be similar to the following:
Code:
C:\ProgramData\3CX\Instance1\Data\Http\Interface\provisioning\xxxxxxxxxx

For Debian:
Code:
/var/lib/3cxpbx/Instance1/Data/Http/Interface/provisioning/xxxxxxxxxx

DHCP Option 66 is a provisioning method you can use explained with more detail here:
https://www.3cx.com/sip-phones/dhcp-option-66/

If you are not familiar with option 66 you can use the manual approach explained here:
https://www.3cx.com/sip-phones/manually-provision-polycom-soundstation/

Both the above links are included in the Polycom provisioning guide.

How do you copy it into the PBX?

3CX is not installed on my Computer, I login to access the phone system. so I don't have or can't copy them in the provisioning folder of the PBX.

Where is the phone system installed? Is it a local installation or hosted?

Hosted through 3CX

here is part of my dashboard the IP is in red, so it looks like theres an error

Ok since the PBX is hosted with 3CX you will need to manually upgrade the phones to the supported firmware as you do not have access to the OS. Since the phone is already to the supported version you can skip that step.
Since the PBX is hosted the phones will need to be provisioned as remote devices and the only supported method to do so is by using an SBC.
https://www.3cx.com/docs/3cx-tunnel-session-border-controller/

Once the SBC is configured correctly you will need to navigate to the extension settings and set the VVX device for SBC provisioning. Apply the changes and follow the manual provisioning guide to copy the provisioning link into the phones web interface

This means that your PBX does not have a Static public IP address but there is no error. All 3CX hosted instances are configured the same way.

These Instruction make no sense at all, My Firewall is A Zywall USG 20w

None of this makes sense
  1. Enable Port Forwarding.
  2. Specify the PBX’s Local IP Address (which we had set previously to 192.168.9.213)
  3. Set the Type to “TCP/UDP”.
  4. Set the Port Range to be from 5090 to 5090 (only one port).
  5. Set the Comment field to “3CX Tunnel”.
  6. Click on the “Add” button followed by the “Apply” button. Your firewall configuration is now done!
When I setup the account it was suppose to be easy and only a 5 min process I have been at this for over a week and only seem to be getting canned answers that don't apply to my application, Please is there any support available. I am not a IT Specialist so most of this stuff makes no sense at all.

Where do i get the ip address there are at least 3 different ones listed on the pbx
what port do i use 5060 or 5090
the PBX has the phone as PROVISIONED but there is no communication to it.
I tried contacting a "local" Service provider it's not worth there time to help me.
why is t here no support number a simple 10 min call and problem like this are taken care of.
