My phones don't seem to be auto-provisioning properly and I think I've narrowed it down to inaccessible provisioning files. The phones show up as 'New' in the PBX as soon as they boot up, but once I set my configuration options and hit OK, the phone never downloads the config, reboots or provisions.

Via a browser, I'm unable to access the dynamically generated provisioning files at https://xx.11.100.79:5001/provisioning/z000ac13vx/000B82XX9459.cfg while I can get to other static files in the provisioning folder such as https://xx11.100.79:5001/provisioning/z000ac13vx/aastra.cfg just fine.

PBX and phones are on the same subnet and I can provision manually just fine.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Hello @PCRP

Is the IP Address subnet a valid RFC 1918 address? If so then you need to use http and port 5000 as the provisioning link.

So since you didn't mention it I had to look up the MAC address you provided to figure out what phones you are using. I'm going to go ahead and put this link here since you didn't mention following it:

https://www.3cx.com/sip-phones/grandstream-gxp21-series/

I'm guessing Step 1 about upgrading the firmware will probably solve the problem.

Since the PBX is generating the config files then either the phone is not requesting for the file or the file does not reach the phone. Make sure that the phone is running the 3CX supported firmware as suggested and if that does not solve the issue run a wireshark capture and try to provision the phone. You should be able to see the communication between the phone and the PBX and figure out where this is failing.

Thanks for the suggestions. I noticed that once I hit OK in the PBC management console, the phone picks up the location of the provisioning file (as can be seen in the phone settings), but it seems to have trouble after that.Trying to force a provision from the phone after it has received the path to the provisioning files doesn't appear to work either, but with no specific error message.

I did update the firmware on the phone straight out of the box, but I'll try a capture and see what I can find.

Let us know what you find and if further assistance is required.

The phone was never requesting the HTTP provisioning file from the PBX. By default the Grandstream devices have 'Allow DHCP Option 43 and Option 66 to Override Server' set to yes and as it happens, our network has an Option 66 setting in the DHCP scope for use by our PXE network imaging server.

Disabling the setting on the phone then rebooting allows 3CX to provision as expected or moving the phones to their own VLAN as is planned anyway will avoid the issue.

Glad to see the issue has been resolved and thank you for updating the thread with your solution.
