We have a fresh 3cx install last week and are working through some bugs. We have some situations where music is played but we want to replace it as follows:

1. external caller dials main line and presses extension hears music or internal caller dials extension and hears music. We want to replace this with "transferring to John Dough, extension 123" followed by Rings until user picks up or voicemail picks up per predetermined ring limit. Even just Rings would be better than being transferred into an abyss of music.

2. When a Call Group is initiated where the phone rings on multiple phones, instead of Ringing we hear music

3. Basically, we only want "on hold" music to play if we tell someone we are putting them "on hold" or on "park" and then do so....we are recording a custom wav file for this very purpose.

Our installer is implying its not possible to change this but we are skeptical.

Any advice, guidance or links would be appreciated.

Thank you
Salim

Your installer is correct, this is not possible, at least not "out of the box".

If you want to get involved extensively with the CFD and the 3CX Call Control API for #1 you could:
  • Send the main line to a CFD
  • The CFD would be an IVR where the caller could insert the extension they want to be transferred to.
  • CFD, via the Call Control API, would check if that extension exists, lookup the name, and play your prompt back to the Caller along with the name using text-to-speech
  • After prompt, caller would hear the systems default music on hold (can't change this behavior).
  • Call either is answered or forwarded to VMail
This is in no way simple to do, but I think it would be possible given that someome versed in programming and the 3CX API and CFD spends enough time on it.

For #2. just use a Queue.

For #3, that is fine, but note that the same .wav would be played in #1 as explained.
