  1. Problem when using domain name instead of IP

Arvine, it appears to be a 3CX "peculiarity". You'd think they'd use the normal GetHostByName function, but apparently not.
  2. send voice mail notification by email

If you're not seeing port 25 traffic coming out of the server then no email session is even being started. First thing I would try is a backup and reinstall of the software and a check to make sure that port 25 was open.
  3. send voice mail notification by email

DNS isn't IP Protocol 53, it's a TCP or UDP session on port 53
  4. send voice mail notification by email

Get a copy of Wireshark and sniff the packets from that machine on port 25. That should tell you more about the process and any failure. I don't think the 3CX logs are adequate for troubleshooting the email side of things. All I can say is that my email delivery does work, so it's possible in...
  5. send voice mail notification by email

If you're relying upon Outlook Express rule forwarding to forward mail, and you've got Outlook Express closed, it's not going to forward anything. It's also not going to have received the email from the ISP until it's started and running. Why don't you just set the recipient email address of...
  6. 3cx over VPN

Has your Patton got the default gateway configured in it's IP stack which corresponds to the route via which you want to send VPN packets? (i.e. if your VPN endpoint on the LAN in the office isn't the same device/IP address as the default gateway, you will need to stick a static route into the...
  7. Optimizing Firewall configuration for VoIP and 3cx

Bottom line: 99% of the problems you will find with VoIP calls is related to QoS. I moved to Cisco 877s as a result, and have a vastly improved experience. The Sonicwall just doesn't cut it IMHO. Mike.
  8. Problem when using domain name instead of IP

One thing to test is the DNS server configured into your phone? as your phone will not be able to resolve the address without one. Cheers, Mike.
  9. Problem when using domain name instead of IP

DNS is purely a name-to-IP-address mapping, and all lookups are done as-needed (although the device may contain a small DNS cache). Do your handsets work when referenced purely on an IP address basis then? (as this might explain an issue i've been having with remote handsets too)
  10. Problem when using domain name instead of IP

Your problem is probably due to the fact your phone is inside the same network with the 3CX server, and so when the phone looks up the DNS name it gets the external address of the firewall, and hence the phone tries to connect to that, and most firewall providers don't allow a route between the...
  11. 3cx with Portech mv 372, problem with busy destinations

Hi there, The second of your problems (dialing twice) can be fixed in the outbound rules. Basically, within this section you will have a rule for your Portech outbound calls, (usually based upon number prefixes) which currently has two routes. If you only want it to try dialing the Portech...
  12. Cisco QoS

Hi Robert, Thanks for the info. Could you possibly do a generic QoS config for an 877, and also critique whether we're on the right track as regards the NBAR classification as per the above posts? Also, is LAN QoS really *that* important inside the organisation if you're not saturating the...

  14. Gateway GSM for 3CX

That's because between me posting it and you viewing it, some bugger's been playing with the wiki. It now appears to be a subsection at: http://wiki.3cx.com/Home/supported-gateways
  15. Digit Receptionist, Multiple Extensions, 1 PSTN Line

The name's Mike :) Have you checked whether you have the firewall enabled on the server? (if so, disable it). The Snom M3 is a piece of cake to configure, so if you're having this sort of issue it sort of points towards something like a crappy firewall product being in the way.
  16. Gateway GSM for 3CX

Actually here's the list from the Wiki of the community-tested gateways. http://wiki.3cx.com/Home/community-supported I've got a Portech 372 and can recommend it. It works flawlessly. Mike.
  17. Digit Receptionist, Multiple Extensions, 1 PSTN Line

I don't think you can use the same 3102 as a VoIP gateway AND an ATA at the same time?
  18. Digit Receptionist, Multiple Extensions, 1 PSTN Line

I would assume it's something to do with a port conflict on 5060 between the two setups. Why do you need to keep that enabled? Just go 100% VoIP :) (I use the Snom M3 at home with one of these and it works a treat)
  19. Digit Receptionist, Multiple Extensions, 1 PSTN Line

    You're welcome :)
  20. Digit Receptionist, Multiple Extensions, 1 PSTN Line

It goes as per my post above ref: the internet port. My SPA3102 is inside my firewall. The big problem is that the SPA3102 is designed to be a firewall of it's own. In the UK, we can't (yet, due to BT's stupid monopoly) get ADSL lines without having a POTS line. Hence my setup is a POTS...
