    "Extension is external" means that the extension is not inside your local network or is in your local network but use the external ip of your local network.

    in my case i use external for phone in other office (other DSL Line)

    also for phones i use from inside and outside (while travel) local lan (this phone are configured like in the first case.

    but not for phone inside local lan that have the internal IP of the PBX server (192.168.178.200)

    "Bind to media Server" means that the media server is used as a relays between the calling partys. it is a must if you use external extensions and is possible if you don´t use external. if it is not used the voice stream goes direct between the 2 phones.

    using the media server increase the load of the PBX server

    Ill add somthing to the "extension is external" definition

    The only thing this option will do is, if checked it will use Ports 9000-9499(default ports) for that extension, if not checked, it will use ports 7000-7500(same has iinternal extensions use). So basicly it will save you from opening ports 7000-7500 on your firewall....

    Cheers

    The ports 9000 to 90xx are used to allow RTP traffic to between the two end points right ? I only allow port forwarding on the firewall which has the 3cx PBX behind it. do I need open these ports on the firewall of the LAN network that has the SIP phone, I assumed you do not need to since the SIP phone was initiating the the call (outbound connection) which would registered in the firewall's NAT tables.

    First of all, if everything works, leave it like that... lol
    But ya ports 9000-9499 are the ports where RTP traffic goes through... and (i think) you do not need(on a normal situation) to open that ports on the computer with the Sip Phone, thoug im not sure here...

    Cheers

    when I try to make a call I do not get any audio I notice error in the logs on the 3cx server

    MediaServerReporting::RTPReceiver [MS105000] Call(33) Ext.1005: No RTP packets were received on 00000043@:remoteAddr=190.58.66.56:5004,extAddr=190.58.102.152:61932,localAddr=0.0.0.0:9030
    the public addresses look ok 190.58.66.56 is public address of the SI phone

    Then, if i check "extension is external", must i open 9000-9499 UDP ports in the router ? (in the 3cx lan ,of course)
    It can be the cause of a softphone with good register but working without audio in/out in the other side of wan, isn´t right?

    Thats correct, you need to open that ports on router(where 3cx server is) so that sound can pass through...

    external extension registration

    I seem to be having some issues with my external extension. It shows that it is registering ok and I can call an internal extension from it. However I do not get audio. I have been trying to implement the stun server on both the server and the external client (PAP2) both are using stun.3cx.com.I am using the media server and have also checked external extension for the external extension.

    If I call the external extension from the internal I see :

    21:04:26.663 CallConf::Rejected [CM103005] Call(2) is rejected: Destination is not answering
    21:04:26.663 StratInOut::eek:nCancel [CM104008] Call(2): Call from Ext.100 to 103 terminated; cause: 408 Request Timeout; internal
    21:04:26.663 CallTarget::create [CM005001] Forward loop detected for destination 103Forward history:{103}
    21:03:54.007 CallConf::eek:nIncoming [CM103002] Call(2): Incoming call from 100 (Ext.100) to sip:103@192.168.10.202

    It seems that the stun is not working? I have tried fowarding all ports i have found in the forums as well dmz on the server side. The external extension is behind a firewall that i cannot forward anyports on.I see an internal ip being displayed when I call that external extension?!

    all of my internal extensions can talk to each other without any problem.

    any ideas where to start? I am using Version3.1.2434.0
    the latest version i could not even get the internal phone to ring.
