The Management Console shows the fax server but you cannot click to select it. The same with the Assistant Client.

Kerry - is that in the Web or WIndows mgt console?
Are you talking about under the "Links" section? Under "Links" I was able to click all links and download the files in both Windows Mgt Console and via web on IE/FF/Chrome. Perhaps it is a security setting on your computer?

Hi Kerry, there is no need to update fax server, because this update is already included in version 9. That's why its grayed out.
    Thanks and regards.

I seem to have it all setup then, a call comes to a specific DiD, rings to the fax extension, and then nothing. No fax tones, just nothing.

Kerry - maybe not completely set up. You know well based from your experience that fax is a complex subject and is not something you get working with a click of your fingers.

    Tips/Checks
What fax extension are you forwarding too? Is this the 3CX Fax or some other fax extension?
I suggest you try the 3CX fax Server first.

Do you get a tone if you dial this fax extension directly from an extension inside? No you will not correct? Is this same behaviour you get on the DID? Then you might know the answer why fax is failing.

    Does the call disconnect after?

    What does wireshark tell you?

BTW - Do you have a default email set in the default email address?

    Is the license enabled?

    Is the extension registered?

Server activity log - what does wireshark tell you - etc etc.

It is setup as ext 888. checkbox for 3CX Fax server is checked. There is no tone dialing into DiD or internally by dialing the extension.

As soon as you call it it disconnects.

Didn't bother with wireshark, this seems like a 3CX software issue

How are you so sure it is a 3CX Problem?

What is the nature of the problematic call?

I told you to make this test to see whether the behavior of a normal phone without fax can be compared with the behavior of an incoming call from an external source to 888 ie - no dial tone and sudden disconnection like you replicated with a non enabled T38 phone.

    Is the behavior the same?

If you are using a VoiP Provider what is it?

If I dial 888 (my fax extension) should I get fax tones? I don't it just hangs up. The same behavior as a call coming into the FAX DID. If this was only having an issue on a DID call then I would suspect a configuration or compatibility. However, since the admin guide said that you should hear fax tones when calling the extensions, and I do not, then I suspect there is something wrong with 3CX or the fax configuration as I have set it up. If it is working for other people (and they say it is) then I am stumped as to why this isn't working for me. Is it correct that if I dial the fax extension I should hear the fax tones? If I am not, where do I start to troubleshoot that?

You do not hear fa tones, if the entity you are calling from does not support t38 (like your cisco)

And you troubleshoot this by making an incoming call from a t38 enabled provider and capture with wireshark.

This way you will ensure that at least the medium where the call is coming from can traverse t38 traffic. If it can and there is a disconnection there is a problem in the fax server or in its configuration.

I must say that fax receiving with the latest v9 and patched v8 from downloads section is at the moment the most stable we ever released in 3CX history. We need to check this with wireshark

Kerry, you did not post all the information necessary. You are not using a supported gateway or provider and the issue is with that, not 3CX....

What I needed to know was "should I hear fax tones if I dial 888" and the answer is No.

    Depends from where you call.

If you call from an entity that does not understand T38 you will not hear a tone.
If you call from a fax machine or an entity that understands T38, you will hear a tone yes.

So if I pick up extension 200 and dial 888 I should hear fax tones in order to tell if the fax service is working or not?

No - you should not hear fax tones
you should get a breif connection and then a sudden disconnect if extension 200 is a normal sip phone.

However - if Extension 200 is an ata configured properly wih a fax machine attached to it, then yes - you should hear a fax tone.

If if you have a gateway, set a did to point to 888 and make a call from a fax machine somewhere. You should get a fax tone.
