In other IP-PBX systems, there's an option to enable a general voicemail box for the group, and it's an option that I've been requested to set up for a client, as their old phone system was capable of doing so.

It would work along the lines of when a group receives a voicemail, it activates the MWI light on the phone of the users in that group to notify them of the message, as well as showing the new voicemail in the 3CXPhone software for the users in that group (possibly with a different header to differentiate the group voicemails from the personal voicemails). When a user in that group listens to the general voicemail, it would turn the MWI light off.

I know that there's the option of sending the voicemails to an email address, but I still feel like this would be a beneficial feature to have, and would help transition users from other phone systems to 3CX.

MWI on another extenion or general VM box w/MWI

It would be nice to be able to have a general voicemail box and have a blf displayed on multiple phones to check it.

can this not be done with a shared extension on every phone?

    Shared voicemail access

It would be useful to create a 'shared voicemail' of some kind.

Say at a office there are 4 people working, each with their own desk and phone and extension number.
When someone leaves a voicemail, it's now always one someone's extension, eg. 100.
Then only 100 gets an email about the message and only 100 has the MWI-light blinking on their phone and sees the message in the 3CX softphone.
We can set-up email rules on Exchange forwarding the email message to the other users as well, but it would be better if there were some kind of shared access possible.
That way, messages can also be marked as 'old' (listened to), and users know that a message has been listened to.
This is especially useful when not everyone works at the same days.

So, the option to share your voicemail (in the extension's settings) would useful. For a really seperate shared voicemail box you could just create another extension and give everyone access to it.

Ring Group and Queue mailboxes are the way forward and are requested quite often. Hopefully we will see them soon.

    Group Voicemail

The ability to create a voicemail or forward and existing voicemail to multiple extensions. This is a common feature in voicemail on Cisco and Mitel. The use case is a owner makes a voicemail of instructions or idea and then sends it to his managers.

    Yes, it is.

I would really like this too. We had it with our previous Samsung OfficeServ system and really miss not having it on 3CX. It's the only feature that 3CX couldn't match. For this feature to work properly for us we would also need to be able to have MWI lights on desk phones for the group mailboxes (in addition to the current extension based MWI arrangements).

Re: MWI on another extenion or general VM box w/MWI

I had suggested a shared (department) mailbox quite a number of years ago (to no avail), which would allow access to both personal, and shared through the VM menu. MWI for both mailboxes would appear for the sets personal messages, and a list of extension that were to have access to the shared mailbox. When you called in retrieve, you would hear...Press one for personal messages, and 2 for department messages, or something to that effect....
If there was no one in a department, the call could go off to a "general message for that department" rather than a message from one employee. When people came back from lunch (etc.), all sets would indicate a message and the first person in , would pick it up. All without having to install another extension on all of the sets (some do use only single line sets)

We would like to see this as well, having come from a 13 year old ArgentBranch box that even had group voicemails on it, this is currently the most missed feature we are trying to find a suitable workaround for.

    Ability Group Voicemail

Add the ability for Ring Groups to have a "neutral" E-Mail Address or Voice Mailbox where multiple Users have access to.
So far you can only define one extension which voicemailbox should be used.

    Re: Shared voicemail access

Yes, for the love of Christ, Yes!

We need this, too. We can _RIG_ something currently using fake extensions and voicemail-to-email, but this feature - that actually works like some of the older "traditional" pbxs - or the old 3Com NBX - would be GREAT.

I could see it happening again like someone mentioned - it activates MWI for members of the group, and when the login, it would give them the option of listening to the group vmail. Changes would be needed on 3cx phone client as well, as vm list would need to be able to accommodate the possibility of group vms.

It would require some effort - but I _REALLY_ do not think that effort would be spent in vain, guys. This would add a GREAT and oft-requested (on our end) feature.

    Re: Shared voicemail access

Has anyone made use of a good work around when it comes to group voicemail? We're considering tweaking the Yealink template to add the "group" extension as an additional account onto the handsets but even that's yielded limited success.

Do we already know if this idea is going to be in V15 SP3?
