media pass thru

    One of the features listed with v5 is the so called media pass thru. How does one enable this. I assume that this would allow us to use the licenses to g729 built into most phones and gateway's correct?

    I believe this is working pretty much like it was working on V3, even thoug then no one would call it that name. If you do not bind any extension or Voip provider to server media will pass through....
    Anyone correct me if im wrong...

    Its an automatic feature.

    Before, it would operate in two modes Direct or Bound

    Now, it can operate in 3 modes Direct, Proxy or Transcoding

    In Direct mode - all SIP and RTP traffic is between the phones, 3CX Phone System is not involved.

    In Proxy mode (or pass thru) - SIP traffic is signaled via 3CX phone system, but RTP traffic passes directly

    In Transcoding mode - all traffic is passed via 3CX Phone System.

    These modes are decided on by 3CX, but in anutshell

    Internal calls direct
    Calls between internal and external or between subnets are in proxy mode
    Calls are in transcoding mode if the phone does not support all features necessary for reliable operation
