There appears to be only one option for Music on Hold, which is a single WAV file.

This is very restrictive as you may want to have a few audio files in a playlist. Plus the addition of a "line in" option would be great so we can stream whatever we want to the music on hold (which is what my previous Panasonic KX-TDA did :) )

The following post has more information on this:
    http://www.3cx.com/forums/v14-on-hold-music-line-in-41875.html

Not sure if v14 sp1 added back the line in option.

I'm new to the forums, is there anywhere else we can post this to get some attention? The audio playlist and line in features being gone are stopping block for me. The existing on-hold options in v14 are weak.

It's actually a major embarrassment when upgrading from v11, or deploying 3cx as a replacement where a "proper" MOH implementation exists.

    Hopefully .. soon?

I'm losing out on $4,500.00 (and counting) in revenue a MONTH because 3CX v14 doesn't support inline.

3CX that's a whole lot of money is license sales you're missing out on too.

Here it is from an end customer (not me, I'm just the implementer), and how it holds up or kills a prospect.

"Is this “manual” upload a temporary measure? As part of our <name withheld> service contract, it is really important that we establish an upload procedure that doesn’t need an added level of responsibility by a branch representative or third party equipment supplier in order to get our scripts uploaded and running each month.

    Thanks,

    <name withheld> - Sr Marketing Coordinator"

To avoid confusion - its not a single WAV file, its many WAV files that you can upload.... Furthermore, only WAV is supported because it requires much less processor time than an MP3 file (because its more compressed). Just convert your MP3 file before, its really not that hard. As for streaming music to the PBX, yes this is something in consideration.

    Hi Nick,

Great to hear that streaming is under consideration. I anticipate that this may allow 3rd party devices that are maintained by "on hold message vendors" to work? The customer in question has 18 branches, and contracts the production and maintenance of the on-hold messages and wants them all to be the same. They like 3CX, but have a marketing manager that has stalled the other 17 branches deployment over this issue. I think that's a bit silly considering the benefits, but it's not my call, it's the way it is.

The current use of wav files isn't the issue - the vendor can provide these so that conversion isn't required. The issue is that each month, 9 or 10 wav files have to be uploaded and it's a manual procedure. Further, the business makes extensive use of call queues, which only allow a single wav file.

Hopefully, streaming in will provide the customers on hold messaging to all instances where a caller is waiting.

    Thanks - Les.

    Hi Nick,
I am working with a company who specialises in music on hold with marketing messages. They provide services for all kinds of PBX, but we find that in the VoIP PBX market that these features are generally very weak.

It looked like 12.5 was nearly there, and only needed the URL streaming feature to be added. Looking at 14, we are very much back to basics whereby only simple files can be played with no sound input, nor the ability to use a sound card - or virtual sound card.

These features are also important for hosted telephony. The types of company that buy the solutions are usually those that have lots of branches, so potentially 3CX will lose a lot of revenue. It would be great to see this resolved ideally with a range of options so that on hold marketing is easy to implement without branch staff having to do anything.

Is this something that is likely to happen soon?
    Kind regards
    Richard Crabb

Definitely want a streaming music option for v14. That would be fantastic, as we have a client that's stuck on v12.5 because of this. (Using line in on 12.5)

One wav only for each queue
One wav only for parked calls
    10 for on hold calls

I'd say queues and parking are more often used, by far, than on hold. So not only is it really only 1 wav file for the most often used, but there are at least 2 separate places where you have to add/change the files, and add an additional place for each queue.

You try it!. Give yourself 10 wav files. Configure your system so that all calls that are 'waiting', for whatever reason, get a rotation of the 10 files. Your 10 wav files change at least monthly. You will go crazy ;-).

out of curiosity, what is the largest/longest WAV that 3CX supports? I suppose you could create a 10 hour WAV at 600MB.

Unfortunately that won't really work. Every time you put someone on hold it starts the file from the beginning. So unless you have REALLY long hold times they would never hear anything but the first few minutes.

    Here my +1
Looking forward line-in or streaming for all of the following:
    - queues
    - parked calls
    - on hold
    Thanks
