I have a used polycom 501 that is not loading up its boot server. I would like to use it for 3cx.

Can someone walk me through the process of adding the necessary software to the polycom 501 so that it boots up and picks up an ip a ddress from 3cx?

It looks like this phone was used for some ohter pbx system.

    Thanks

right now, when I turn the power on for the phone it starts booting and finishes with could not contact boot server "error loading 0004f4......cfg" This look like some config file.

    Thanks
    again

It should be support following list currently:
    GrandStream GXP-2000
    GrandStream GXP-2020
    Snom 320
    Snom 360

We using FTP server for all our Polycom Phones ( Over 40pcs) download boot config, bootrom version check and application version check. If get the new version of update. We just in need to put the new version file into our ftp server. Ask users to reboot them will auto download, then update all the things.

I think he's looking for a more complete "how to" guide to provision a polycom phone. I'd like the info myself! :)
Or if you can just point us to the right spot.

    Thanks.

Yes a good guide would help.

i'm assuming, I setup an ftp server with these files in them using my polycom mac address and point the phone to the ip address of the computer acting as the ftp server?

I would prefer to learn how to do this myself. There's a great learning opportunity for others as well.

I have setup a ftp server and have placed the ip addres username and password of the ftp server into the polycom.

rebooted the phone. I can see that the phones gets an ip address from my router and I can see the phone connect to "golden ftp serve pro" software.

Then something happens and it does not download the files. I have all the necessary files and I have added the mac addess of the phone to the XXXXXXXXXXXX.cfg file.

anything else i'm supposed to do? sip ip is 2.1.2 and bootrom version is 3.2.3.

OK. Please found the steps as below:
FTP ID must have full access to the ftp root directory. All files put into the root directory of FTP server.
    1. Reset you Polycom phone to factory default. If not works, try format your Polycom. To make sure everything at default.
    2. Config your Polycom point your FTP server with ID which can full access FTP root directory. Once config your Polycom. Don't try to use web admin to change any thing at your Polycom phone. Since the web admin config will override the auto provision config.

MAC_of_phone.cfg point to the cfg file which contain EXT number, password, digimap and etc of that phone. SIP.cfg which for pointer of SIP server or Proxy to registrar and common settings of those phones.

wow this is kind of tricky. i'm not sure i understand all of these steps. Mainly towards the end it gets confusing.

Right now all I have to do is power up my phones and they pick up an ip addres from the router.

Then I go to a web browser, enter the address and make my configuration changes and it works fine.

Is there a way to get this phone to work like this?

All works from accidentally formated our first Polycom phone. Since we know that it can download all the things it need from the FTP server then installed back to phone if all files it need at FTP root directory.

All Polycom Phone after open the box to end users. We never using the web admin at all.

All following steps are direct using phone menu. (NOT USING WEB ADMIN!!! NO need format and reset factory default or reset local at the phone)
    1. Connect power for your phone (PoE or Power adaptor). Press setup
    2. Keyin 456 then press OK (456 is the default password at phone)
    3. Use cursor down move to DHCP Client then set it ENABLE (The default should be enanle)
    4. Use cursor move to Server Menu then press Select Key (Softkey of phone)
    5. Select server is FTP (If Server type shows FTP then move the cursor down to Server Address)
    6. At Server address press the sofkey "Edit"
    7. Keyin your IP address of FTP server
    8. Keyin FTP ID and Password
    9. Save and EXit

Please send me the XXXXXXXXXX.cfg (MAC address of phone) and XXXX-XXXXXXXXXX.cfg to my email account. The FTP server we tested is FileZilla and MS FTP server.

If you still want to do it yourself. Please check the FTP server root directory. The phone will upload the boot log to it. It should be XXXXXXXXXX.log (XXXXX is MAC address of that phone). Just reminded that if the phone use web admin to modify any config at phone. The phone will boot local config instead of config at FTP server.
