Solved Proxy authentication required

    Hi All,

    I have a local pbx with local ip phones. Everything is working correctly and I am currently having no issues. I was playing with the new capture tool and looking at the pcap files using wireshark.

    I have noticed that I am getting a 407 - Proxy authentication required originating from my 3cx server to each extension that is making a call.

    Is this something I need to worry about or just let it go. The pbx has been online for more than 6 + months and I have not had any issues.

    Hello @THCO,

    The "407 Proxy Authentication Required" SIP message is sent from the PBX to the phone, to obtain authentication from the user.

    Is this something I need to worry about as I am not seeing any issues at the moment.

    Also how do I resolve it?

    @THCO,

    No this is not something that should be worrying you.

    When a phone makes a call, after the initial invite to the PBX, the PBX will always reply to the phone with a "407 Proxy Authentication required" message. The phone sends an "ACK" message and authenticates.

    Check the below capture of a call from an extension to another. This is the normal flow of a SIP call.

    This is why I chose 3cx as a voip solution because this forum is amazing.
