Setting up the caller number

    Hi,

    How can I set up the SIP number that appears in the caller id of the receiver of the call?

    First of all, your provider must support changing caller ID to something other than a number assigned by them. Many don't, and in fact, it is forbidden in a number of countries. If they do allow this, you can try putting a number in the Caller Id to be displayed on outside calls field, in one of the extensions, to see if that works. If the provider does not like the number however, the call may fail. There are also some outbound options in the trunk, that can be changed depending on how the provider wants the number to be sent.

    I would check/confirm that they allow CID spoofing before you spend time on this.

    It is very simple.

    1. Select "SIP Trunks" in the left tree menu
    2. Double-click on your configured SIP trunk
    3. Choose the "Caller ID" tab
    4. Enter the desired outbound caller ID number in the "Configure Outbound Caller ID" field.

    Note this should only have digits. No extra characters "!(- " and no Caller ID name. For example 8016424655

    This is a global setting for all outbound calls. However, you can override this setting at the extension level, if the extension needs a unique caller ID number. To configure the extension's caller ID number follow these steps:

    1. Select "Extensions" from the left tree menu
    2. Double-click on the desired extension
    3. Enter the desired caller ID number in the "Outbound Caller ID" field.

    leejor also is correct that you may have some restrictions regarding the number you choose for your outbound caller ID. If you wish to use a number that is assigned to your account by your SIP provider, you should not have any issues. But if you are attempting to use a phone number not assigned to your account, the carrier may reject the call.

    If you have call center agents who need to dynamically change their caller ID number, you might want to consider our "3CX Caller ID" add-on which enables agents to easily change your outbound caller ID number with each call, or for a group of calls, by extension.
