In the operator console, if I right-click on the call and park it, the next available sp slot is used. I would love to give each user their own parking slot, but I cannot part into their slot unless I use part buttons on blf keys. Is there a way to select the parking slot i.e. SP9 for a call? If so, this would be great.

something I always thought would be cool...
someone calls in and get Johns Smiths Voicemail.
From the Voicemail, user can hit "8" to "Have John paged within the building"
The Caller is automatically put into an SP.
The system makes an announcement to a Paging Group.
"John Smith, you have a call holding on Park 5"
    If John answers, great.
If he doesn't - the caller hears "John Smith isn't answering. Returning to Voicemail... and goes back to his voicemail.

In addition, Shared parking cannot be used on cordless phones or analog phones as there is no way to pick up a call with a star code.

Shared parking is better for smaller business as its more obvious how to use. - There is a flashing light on the phone. Press to take the call.

Park Orbit is probably better for a larger business.

We use cordless phones with SP fine. Just programmed an extension to forward.

Can you provide some details. How does one pick up a parked call with SP using a cordless phone?

Create an extension - say 771 (77 is SP when you match up letters)
    Put your email address
Send yourself the welcome email (has config profile)
Config your softphone using the config file
Setup forwarding to external number of SP1 - for when not registered...
(Or you can do it for away and change the extension to currently away)
    Close 3cx softphone

    From cordless dial 771
You should hear the hold music

Do this for each Shared Park you want to setup

(Only the Desktop softphone can setup an external number with letters in it)

If I'm not mistaken, another benefit of shared parking over parking orbit is the ability to configure a ringback if the call is not retrieved within x seconds.
