    Display Method - http://wiki.snom.com/Settings/display_method

    (This link is for Snom but I believe other handsets have the same issue).

    The display method cannot be changed without customising the snom template and the default is display_name, this only displays the caller's name not their number.

    It would be much better IMHO if the default was display_number_name. This way you can make a note of the number that called you and call the person back - especially internal users. This is a similar issue to how the idle display used not to show the extension number and users name on the handset. In any case an alternative is to surface the option in the handset provisioning page, that way everyone is happy!

    The setting is here in the template:-

    <!--########################################################-->
    <!--### Caller ID Display Settings ###-->
    <!--########################################################-->

    <!--# Specifies how incoming and outgoing calls are displayed -->
    <display_method perm="">display_name</display_method>

    Just did a diff check on the 68852 version of the snom template versus the 68851 version and I see the default has been changed.

    https://www.diffchecker.com/hc5n4y3a

    <display_method perm="">display_name</display_method>

    to

    <display_method perm="">display_name_number</display_method>

    Brilliant. Using display_name_number rather than display_number_name as I suggested has the advantage that on the snom handsets with the larger displays the number appears below the name which I think looks better.

    Well done 3CX!:)
