voice mail to email

    I am in the process of configuring my 3CX machine.

    Everything seems to be working fine, I am able to leave voice mail and retrieve them via the phone or from the user web interface, but I am not getting the emails. I have set the extension preferences to send voice mail as attachment.

    Is there a log file that I can see what is going wrong and why my emails are not being delivered?

    Have you specified the outgoing SMTP server in Settings > General > Mailserver
    Does it need Authentication?
    What is your configuration - what version of 3CX are you running?

    yes, I have added my smtp info
    yes I have added my log in and password.

    I am running the latest version 7 release.

    it might be that my ISP is blocking port 25, but that should be obvious if there is a log I can access.

    Easiest way is to telnet to an external SMTP server on port 25 from the 3CX machine - you will know in about 2 seconds if it is blocked .

    the logs have a lot of information, but they definitely state that the email has failed.

    I checked port 25 and it does appear to be blocked. (forgot that I had to set up outlook with an alternate port #)

    to us an alternate port number, is it as simple as writing: smtp.yourmailserver.com:200 ?

    I will let you know what happens once I get the correct port number inserted.

    one more note:

    I have been trying to test it, ( I added a port number, smtp.mymailserver.com:**)

    I created a new test extension and got the following error message

    "An exception occurred EditExtension Error: The SMTP host was not found."

    You can try using smtp.yourmailserver.com:200 but it may be that 3CX expects to use port 25 at the remote end - hence the "host not found error"
    Your ISP should allow you to send outbound mail via their mailservers - any reason you aren't using those?

    This may be a complete red-herring, but I too had a similar problem a while back. For me the answer was that if the 3cx computer name has an underscore in it (for example I had named my machine '3cx_server') then my ISP's SMTP server would reject it. Possibly there are other invalid ASCII characters as well that the SMTP server doesn't like, however renaming my computer fixed it!
    This sort of thing can really only be seen by doing a Wireshark capture, the 3cx logs didn't display enough information on the intricacies of the SMTP dialogue.

    Comcast requires that I send using port 587.

    I have written in the smtp into 3cx like this: smtp.comcast.net:587

    I am getting this error message in the 3cx log: System.Net.Mail.SmtpException: Failure sending mail. ---> System.Net.WebException: The remote name could not be resolved: 'smtp.comcast.net:587'

    I can send email using this port 587 on my 3cx machine using outlook express.

    Ideas?

    It looks as though the SMTP port is hard-coded to 25 in 3CX.

    You will probably need to install a standalone SMTP server like the free version of mailenable on the machine and have it configured to send out through the Comcast SMTP servers, then set 3CX to use the localhost:25 address to access mailenable.

    Could someone at 3cx verify that 3cx is in fact limited to SMTP Port 25?

    If so, could a selectable port number field be added to a future release?

    There is exception. It is from System.Net.Mail. It says:
    Could you please explain how did you investigate that port "25" is hardcoded?

    I am unsure of what information you are looking for. I would be happy to provide you with a log file or more information.

    Just to clarify, is it possible to use an SMTP via port 587 in 3cx?

    Hi Stepan

    I have a test machine that i setup 3CX on and changed the 3CX SMTP settings to point at a test SMTP server listening on port 525
    When i put the mailserver settings as <machine name>:525 it cannot find the host.
    If i make the SMTP server listen on port 25 and put <machine name> in the 3CX settings it can find the host which makes me think 3CX only tries to contact the host on port 25, and throws an error if you try to append a port number to the end of the SMTP server address/IP.

    Stepan,

    The only thing I know for sure is that I have to use SMTP Port 587 and I cannot get the 3CX system to email. Any help solving this problem would be greatly appreciated.

    while waiting for a fix you can use a port forwarder and tell to 3cx to sent the mail to the 3cx machine (itself) then the port forwader configured to forward incomming packet on port 25 will forward them to ip and port you specifiy

    never tried it, but is should work...
