Hi everyone,

I work with several entertainment clients, and something very unique to entertainment is the way they do "ad hoc conferencing" and "rolling calls." This is not possible to do on a traditional VOIP system so all of our entertainment clients have kept on-prem systems like Avaya and Shoretel to date.

I have been able to somewhat replicate this with "call groups" on a VOIP system but it is less than ideal.

I am wondering if 3CX could be a replacement for my entertainment clients, here are the two scenarios.

Ad hoc conferencing scenario
  1. Call comes in to boss on line 1 and rings on both assistant and boss' phone
  2. Assistant answers call on their own phone on boss' line 1 which is "mirrored" on their own phone
  3. Assistant puts the call on hold and calls boss on boss' line 2
  4. If boss is available, assistant tells boss to pick up call on line 1 and assistant also picks up and listens in
  5. 5 minutes later, boss asks assistant to leave the call, dial out to another person, if they are available to bring them in
  6. Assistant puts line 1 on hold (which does not technically put the call on hold because boss is still talking on it) and calls out on another line
  7. Assistant reaches the other participant and merges the call into the original call on line 1
  8. This mat repeat several times, the assistant may add/remove, barge in and out, etc all on boss' line 1 without ever hanging up the call or needing to transfer anything
Here is a roll call scenario
  1. Assistant picks up the phone on line 1 and so does boss (they both are on the line simultaneously - boss stays on Line 1 while assistant goes to roll calls
  2. Assistant starts dialing a few people that boss needs to "call back" and the first one that answers gets merged into Line 1
  3. Boss and participant talk for a few minutes while assistant listens in
  4. Assistant removes participant and moves on to the next one
  5. Assistant starts dialing a few people that boss needs to "call back" and the first one that answers gets merged into Line 1
  6. Rinse and repeat
Are these scenarios feasible with 3CX?

You should do some testing with the conference extension (70, 700, 7000, etc.).

You can use it as owned rooms by transfering calls to the <user ext>**<user ext>.
