I cannot find where 3cx is storing the supported FXS device templates.
In the templates section of settings the FXS devices appear to be missing. The Grandstream templates in the supported templates and legacy templates are all phone devices and do not include the fxs or gateway devices. And by inspecting their contents they look nothing alike.

Is there a way to create a customized version of the FXS template? Is this just not exposed in the web user interface and is there a way to do this using other methods? (Linux server if it matters)

I am mostly interested in correcting mistakes in the FXS settings for use as a fax ATA. For example the granstream ht801 has adaptive jitter buffer and medium length as the defaults but for fax you want a fixed jitter buffer at the highest buffer size and echo cancellation turned off and using the supported ht801 template gives you bad settings for fax use.
Jitter buffer type: fixed <P133>0</P133> Jitter buffer length: High <P132>2</P132> Disable Line Echo Canceller (LEC): yes <P824>1</P824> Disable Network Echo Suppressor: yes <P4441>1</P4441>

There are a few other options that likely do not matter since 3cx should not be sending a second caller, but are recommended for fax ATA by several guides I found.
Disable Call-waiting: Yes <P91>1</P91> Disable Call-Waiting caller id: Yes <P714>1</P714> Disable Call-Waiting tone: yes <P186>1</P186>

And another recommendation is to turn off direct IP call. On a lan your firewall shouldn't be allowing unsolicited SIP invites, but still it's a best practice to turn off Direct IP call.
Disable Direct IP Call: Yes <P277>1</P277>

Ok, found something in file system in:
/var/lib/3cxpbx/Instance1/Data/Http/Templates/fxs

I copied the original GrandstreamHT801.fxs.xml file found here and created a duplicate copy

# cp GrandstreamHT801.fxs.xml GrandstreamHT801fax.fxs.xml

Edit this file and made the changes I indicated above
Also change the model ua= line with a new description so it appears in the list as a unique entry.
<model ua="HT801" regex="^Grandstream\s+HT801\s+(?'fwver'.*)\s+(?'mac'.*)$">Grandstream HT801fax</model>

Recreated the extension with this template and it works!

Yes I know Unsupported
Yes I know May break during upgrades

Yes I am fine with that. Hopefully someone who helps with these templates at 3cx might take notice and either add dedicated fax versions of the templates or do some wizardry to configure the appropriate options and make it a configuration choice in the extension settings.

Hope this helps
