What is the process to convert an existing 3CX system to Office 365 sync-enabled so that existing extensions can be implemented for Microsoft Teams?
Also, if one is adding a new extension that is replacing an existing extension number, the procedure to do this under Office365 sync is cumbersome. Is there a way to specify the extension number so that old extensions can be reused when implementing Office 365 sync?

For the extension you already have and you want to be synced with M365, adjust the email of those users in the 3CX Management Console to match to corresponding UPN of the user you want it to sync with in M365.

Then enable M365 User Sync in 3CX.
2 things will happen:
  • Existing 3CX Users that have emails that match Azure AD Users will sync, leaving existing extension numbers as they are and just updating First/Last Name, Mobile, etc.
  • Users that exist in Azure AD but not in 3CX, will automatically be created.

Once you do this, you can go ahead and configure Teams as per the guide:
