PBX and SBCs mix and match v20 with v18

Hi, in my production environment I have a v18 PBX in the cloud, and five SBCs (Raspberry Pi 4B 8GB) at remote sites. I am planning on doing the v20 upgrade on the weekend and do not want to have to drive to all the remote sites (hours of driving) to redo the SBCs on the day of the upgrade - I'd be biting off a whole lot of work in one go doing that.

My questions:
1. Can I upgrade the SBCs to v20 as a second stage? Meaning v20 PBX working with v18 SBCs for a period of time.
2. Alternatively, could the SBCs be upgraded ahead of time? Meaning v18 PBX working with v20 SBCs for a period of time.

I would hazard to guess yes for (1) and no for (2), but just want to be clear what my options are.

Thank you. I used option #2 and upgraded my SBCs first. All seems to be going well. The PBX is next.
