Secure SIP necessary for Teams integration?

Hi,

I read your How To about teams integration.
But can't find if it's really necessary to use secure SIP, I'd like to have some more information about this.

Our customer is using a custom FQDN.
Teams is running on another domain.

Is it correct that we setup the 3CX teams integration on the same domain office365 is running, and buy a certificate for the newly created 3CX/Teams FQDN?
