sms with teams direct routing?

Hi.
Are there any special things to know about routing sms messages to extensions using ms teams with direct routing set up?
We have a potential client that currently uses teams wondering if they could still use sms if using 3cx. We would set up the microsoft integration and set up direct routing for the teams client.

Just wondering what's possible and what's not? as it's not mentioned in the docs that i could see.

Direct Routing is voice-only.

SMS would still work since those are managed in 3CX only. Teams has no SMS support.

So if i have this straight, what you're saying is that you would not be able to see the sms message in your teams client, but you would be able to see it in chat on the 3cx web client?

Exactly, because the SMS are never sent to Teams.

The "integration" with Teams is just Direct Routing, which simulates the Teams as being another phone on your 3CX extension. That's pretty much all it does.

You could probably do SMS through Teams, but it would require an API integration between Teams and the carrier.

@Chris Walters is correct. This can be done direct from some carriers, or, we use a 3rd party vendor that uses a separate app in Teams simply for SMS. It does depend on the carrier that your phone numbers reside on though.
