We currently lost the SMS functionality on our self hosted (PRO licensed) 3CX server. Upon doing some research on the matter, came across the infamous guide. However, the way we are setup with Twilio is a bit unique (due to the way 3CX forced it to become that way). We use their hosted SMS product, basically the SIP portion of the DID is hosted via CallCentric and SMS/MMS of the same DIDs are hosted by Twilio. It's an odd situation but this is the way it needed to be since 3CX was not compatible with CallCentric SMS/MMS.

Now that things have been changed, I need to register Twilio via the SIP Trunking section but since we do not have any SIP Trunks with them, so I'm at a loss here. I can't even get through the first steps to run into such lovely 3CX/SMS related further issues.

The whole SMS situation is a fiasco. Why did it need to be so overly complicated?

Hello @lumaform

I see your issue but I do not agree that the SMS configuration is complicated. For 99% or people setting SMS up is now easier. One trunk and one configuration.
Are you using the same numbers for SIP and SMS or are the numbers different? I am sure we can work something out to have you up and running.

Same numbers, hence the issue. 3CX already has those numbers under CallCentric trunk.

In that case you have 2 options:

1. Move your numbers to a Preferred / Supported provider that supports both SMS and Voice under one trunk
2. Add a dummy Twilio trunk with the same numbers so you can configure your SMS configuration.
Add the numbers in your Callcentric trunk in the 11 digit format (17771234567) and the numbers in your Twilio trunk in the +E164 number format. (+17771234567). Do not use wildcard symbols etc so they are different numbers.

This way you should not have any issues and you will able to use the Twilio trunk to route SMS without issues. We have not tested this configuration so test this carefully and let me know how it goes.

I am taking the 1st. option. Already submitted the port request from CallCentric (voice) & Twilio (messaging) to FlowRoute (voice & messaging).
