Hi !

I run a self-hosted 3CX Enterprise 4SC on a AWS machine.
My 3CX version is 18.0 (Build 23)

According to the VOIP.Ms wiki documentation updated on Dec, 2023, it seems that 3CX support SMS service from VOIP.MS using API. According to their documentation, after I create a new trunk I should see a SMS tab where I can enter my API/ Bearer Token. I tried many times and I'm still not able to see the SMS tab ... Can anyone help me regarding this issues ? VOIP.ms says I need to have the updated trunk template for their trunk, but since my 3CX is the latest version available it should be okay. They also used the 18.0 version on their tutorial.

Thanks

Hi, there is not any SMS tab for VOIP.MS. using the default template.

Here you may find the supported voip provider for SMS.

Also it is mentioned here

So I assume they refer using a custom template and integrating from their side with the SMS API.

You may need to contact them about it or use a voip provider that already supports the SMS.

Have a nice day!

Best regards,
@VoIPms how soon is soon? we're going to have to port away a number to flowroute if we can't get SMS up and running for one of our customers. I started going down the road of generic provider but the "provider URL" on the sms tab needs information in it for me to test, and that is not provided in your wiki.

we have SMS/MMS flowing on a 3cx system this morning via voip.ms courtesy of their support providing the required info. have to run a generic provider template for now, but we copied over the inbound/outbound parameters from the template and both calls/sms are flowing just fine.

it would be awesome if 3cx would work with voip.ms to get this officially supported as they are a great carrier.

Hi ! I don't understand why you already put it in your Wiki section when it's not working. It's really confusing and make people upset to figure out it is still not up and running even if you show it in the Wiki ... Any ETA on this function ? We being on the verge of changing our mind and switch to an other provided since we went into many poor customer service and big issues and delay in porting phone numbers ...

@Rej the missing item from the wiki should be the provider url. Support gave this to me as: https://voip.ms/api/3cx/msg

paste that in there along with the API key (generic template) and your SMS will flow if you follow the rest of their setup instructions.

Any chance you can send me your template (minus your authId and other personnal keys)

Hello

I am trying to do the same thing but do not have the SMS tab. Where can I paste in the required token info in 3cx?

Thanks,

Vince

you need to use a generic template until this is fully supported with 3cx/voip.ms

Hi, new user here - I am attempting to setup VOIP.ms on 3CX following the docs. I can get the Trunk setup and calls working, but the SMS tab does not populate for me either.

Is there a doc somewhere on how to manually set things up using "a generic template" so we can get this working?

@VoIPms - looks like this is almost 5 months old - should the docs be updated, or can we get the template working properly?

TIA

SMS with VoIP.MS is not an option, currently . You can use a generic provider template to configure sms with this trunk, but as a supported trunk using the default template you can’t use sms as it is not tested with SMS for 3CX.

This just underscores the need for more preferred and supported providers as I posted below hoping it will get some attention from 3CX in prospecting of good new providers and encouraging development of existing providers to build out their feature set here in the US:
One of the selling points for 3CX has always been its open standards approach to SIP trunk providers which allow providers to seek certification unfortunately the number of preferred providers has dwindled down to two over recent times both of which do not provide a full complement of capabilities for what 3CX offers.

There are 3 supported providers that lack the same full complement of 3CX offerings, however two of them are now under the same corporate umbrella.

There are currently 10 supported providers available to dedicated systems, however only one Skyetel provides a somewhat complete compliment of what 3CX offers, unfortunately they changed their pricing last fall to require a minimum of $25 a month which makes it unattractive to very small businesses that self-host.

After the fiasco with Flowroute and 10DLC it is clear that we are very limited in the US not the same as the days of RBOC but close, one in the number of certified providers and two with providers that actually support all that 3CX can do.

Yes, we can of course piece meal some functions, but we always run into conflicts with a chosen provider when a client changes their mind says something like I want to sms on my main BTN or i want to fax.

Would it be possible for 3CX to add some focus to the acquisition of new certified providers in the US so we have a full complement of offerings the map to 3CX's capabilities and not be limited to one or two carriers?

Thank you for the consideration...

Thanks - I had already mentioned in my post the need for details about using the generic template. If you have details of how to do that, please provide them.

From other posts in the forum, it does seem to be able to be made to work, and even the docs mention it as does the CEO of 3CX - so there seems to be a disconnect somewhere better the 3CX management, the Voip.ms crew and the documentation. At the end of the day it is not a great user experience, and seems to have been dragging on for months with no resolution by any party.
