The 3CX web meeting recording feature has been a great asset for our organization.

Recently recorded webmeeting files no longer playback audio on Mac OS apps Safari and iMovie. Prior to recent updates, we have been able to edit recorded meetings using iMovie to share with those unable to attend meeting. I can hear audio with file playback through Chrome browser and VLC. Converting the file using VLC prior to editing does work, but seems like an unfortunate step, and seems to create A/V sync issues. My Mac OS install does not play right with the OPUS codec which recordings now use. Past webmeeting recordings encoded with MPEG AAC Audio (mp4) work fine.

Any suggestions or work arounds for recording future web meetings?

3CX 18.0 (Build 912)

Hello, we're sorry about this issue. We had to switch to OPUS due to some incompatibility issues with AAC codec. We're investigating and we hope to be able to restore AAC without any compatibility problems.

OPUS has been around since 11 years and it's an open standard codec,it should really be supported by any modern operative system / browsers. Unfortunately, since this is not the case for Safari and iMovie, I'm afraid you have to transcode audio.

One possibility is to use AVIDemux: https://www.fosshub.com/Avidemux.html
Just copy the video stream and transcode the audio to a codec compatible with Safari and iMovie. Then you will be able to open the mp4 file with Safari and iMovie.

We're aware of this issue and we're working to find a solution.

Thanks for your response.

Looking forward to future AAC solution.

We are also experiencing this issue with Windows operating systems as we have experienced this issue with the default media players on Windows. I don't think it's limited to OS X.

Hi, we are working on a solution for this as it seems Safari in general doesn't support Opus. A fix that will include an alternative codec will be out as soon as possible.

Hello @bmrouse @MScanzano, converters were updated today with a new version that fixes the audio codec problem.
Recordings created since 10:30 UTC are using a fixed implementation of AAC.
Let us know if the issue is fixed for your new recordings.
