I am attempting to share a window, but every time I attempt to do so, the web meeting crashes and I have to rejoin the meeting. It works fine on other computers.

v16 or v18?
Chrome or Firefox?
Windows or MacOS?
Which AV is installed?

3CX V16 Update 8 Linux
Chrome
Brand new install of Windows 10
No anti-virus installed yet

What window are you sharing that causes this? Does this happen e.g. even if you open Windows Notepad and share that?
Also does this happen when you share a Chrome tab or the entire screen?

It does not matter what I attempt to share. Perhaps 1 in 4 attempts succeed. The Chrome browser dies and I have to restart the browser, rejoin the web meeting, and try again. Obviously, that doesn't leave a very good impression on potential customers.

This is most likely something to do with the browser on the specific PC, I can't see it being something server-side.

On this note, do you happen maybe to have a V18 PBX installed somewhere (latest version, Alpha 4)? If yes, could you try opening a WebMeeting through your V18 and see if the same happens?

I uninstalled Chrome and reinstalled it. That did not help. I do have a V18 server. I created a meeting, but it cannot detect my headset or microphone, and it says " Please try logging in again in a few moments...". I have made several attempts but always get the same message. Unfortunately, I cannot test the crashing issue on the V18 server because I can't join the meeting.

I sent you a PM.

I believe this is NOT a server issue because I can connect and share successfully using Chrome from another computer. Further, I installed Firefox on my new laptop and I can get sharing to work consistently. I have other issues with Firefox, however.

  1. Firefox could not find (so I could share) the RDP window when I used the new Microsoft Remote Desktop application. I had to use the legacy Remote Desktop application to be able to find and share the desired window.

  2. I hate the user interface for selecting the desired window. Displaying a description, rather than an image of the window, is far harder for me.
I think we can assume this is an issue with Chrome. This is a brand-new laptop (3 days old). Can you offer any suggestions for resolving this issue? I already tried uninstalling and reinstalling Chrome.

Based on the information you provided, I must agree, it is something with Chrome on the specific PC. If it works perfectly on another PC with Chrome, then I can't think of something else.
New laptops often come with a bunch of extra pre-installed software so it could be something that is causing this, so I would first try by uninstalling (not disabling) any AV software that may be on there.

I also ran a few tests using Chrome 90.0.4430.212 and had no issues.

In regards to Firefox, the truth is that all these WebRTC features are more optimized for Chrome. While Firefox does work, the implementation is not the same from a browser perspective, so just use Chrome. Not a lot we can do about that unfortunately.

Have you tried the new Edge Chromium by any chance? That should offer the same User Experience as Chrome.

I NEVER use the default install that comes with a retail laptop because of all the bloatware that comes with it. I wiped the laptop (home edition) and installed the OS (Professional) myself. Still, I suppose there could be some incompatibility with something I installed, but it is a fairly minimalistic environment since the laptop is brand new.

I have it working with Firefox (on V16, not V18). This is an acceptable workaround for now. I have not tried "Edge Chromium". I did not even know such a thing existed :)
