Have a customer that wants to use 3CX to provide SIP trunking for MS Teams. Is this still supported?

Just for 3CX info, requesting system license for each forum post seems a waste of time as I just use which ever comes up first as these are just general questions.
3CX current integration doesn't provider "trunks" to Teams. It simply "links" a Teams user to a 3CX extension, and then 3CX rings the other will as well (for regular calls), and when Teams makes an external call, it will use the extension on the 3CX side.

This, however, will change in the future. No ETAs yet.

Keep in mind that this requires an Enterprise license, as well as having Phone System Standard on each users on the Teams side, which is expensive.

Yeah thanks for that, so this page is incorrect ?

3CX includes native Microsoft Teams integration offering a cost-effective alternative to MS365’s expensive calling plans. The integration allows Teams users to call out via regional SIP trunk carriers and offers a seamless unified calling experience for both 3CX and Teams users. Admins can benefit from an omnichannel PBX that is much easier to use and configure than Teams. 3CX contact center features elevate Teams users to the next level with call queues, advanced reporting, website live chat, WhatsApp integration, and more.

Save on Teams calling plans

  • Dial externally via 3CX SIP trunks."

Yes and no, the wording is tricky but in a way it is correct. By linking Teams to 3CX, when making a regular phone call in Teams (using the dialpad), Teams will use the 3CX outbound rules, and thus follow any trunk you have configured.

However, it's not DIRECTLY talking to the trunk. Teams acts like a IP phone in this case, where it sends an INVITE to 3CX and 3CX does the rest.

So I can call out from Teams via 3CX? Each Teams user is a separate extension within 3CX

Currently - yes. And that will likely continue to work (just not SIP forking - i.e. ringing both the 3CX client and the Teams client at the same time, etc.

Thanks everyone, the answer is yes for now

Teams provide cost-effective phones is if you have an e5 plan or above,
otherwise, you are having to add the phone system license to each user

So basically if you are an enterprise customer, then yes, you may get benefits
TBH I would only link Teams to 3CX to provide Teams Rooms the ability to call out/in using the office extension (but watch the SIM CALL usage)
