TL;DR - anyone know how to get this --
-- working with 3CX on polycom vvx450 phones?
FULL DESCRIPTION -
just trying to manually add a second line/account to polycom phones that will register successfully with 3CX so it can subscribe to voicemail / MWI...
here is the scenario: we have a brand new client installation using 3CX server pro v18 linux distro on an amazon server.
all phones at the client's site are accessing the amazon 3CX server using 3CX SBC v18 .
the client wanted to keep using their existing polycom vvx450s when they switched to 3CX (since their previous voip vendor let them keep the polycoms at the end of their contract.)
the good news is: all the normal phone features are working great on the polycoms! we simply factory reset the phones, applied their latest 3CX approved firmware, and turned on PNP provisioning; once we did, we could perfectly assign and configure the phones/extensions remotely; even over SBC! we have configured each phone to have its own unique extension and its own personal voicemail box. (Example: unique voicemails for Ext 100, Ext 101, Ext 102, etc.)
the bad news is: their old phone system ALSO was configured with one extension that they used as a "general voicemail" box that each individual phone then subscribed to so that they could see MWI indicators/status and check/delete the message(s) from any phone; with MWI changes reflected on all phones. (Example: there was a voicemail box for Ext 200 that 100/101/102/etc. would also all subscribe to in addition to their own unique vm box.)
we know 3CX doesn't "directly" support such a feature, but, we have used a particular workaround on other phone brands for years with great success. for example, on yealink phones, we know you can manually add the "general voicemail" account as a second account/line on each phone. (SEE:
)
PLUS, according to the polycom docs, when you add additional "lines" to the phone, pressing the voicemail button on the phone will bring up the phone's "Message Center" screen that lets you pick which of your registered lines/accounts you want to check for messages (so, line one would be your personal vm box and line 2 would be the "general vm" box.)
as always, the default template for 3CX only binds the first/single/main account extension to each phone. but, as seen in the yealink video mentioned above, often times, you can easily add more lines/accounts via each phone's web interface. that is what we tried to do on the polycoms. (On polycom phones, the additional lines/accounts are found under: Settings>Lines>Line 2)
on each phone, we are just copying all the settings listed under the polycom phone's web interface menu's Settings>Lines>Line 1 into Settings>Lines>Line 2 and manually changing line 2 so the phone's unique/provisioned Line 1 extension is instead the "general voicemail" extension. (So, line 1's settings show Ext 100 and line 2's shows Ext 200) We have changed Line 2's/Ext 200 username and password as well to match what the 3CX is expecting for Ext 200 as well. -- again, this is just like what was shown in the yealink phones video example above; only we are trying to do it on polycom phones instead.)
the issue is, when we add this second line/account manually to the phone's web interface, it accepts and retains the manual addition to the config even after rebooting or reprovisioning, BUT, the line never actually registers with 3CX, so, it never appears in the phone's "Message Center" as being available to select/call and, of course, no MWI indicators appear. (you can even look on the phone's screen under the status>lines menu; there you can see both line 1 and line 2 have been added; but, it shows line 2 is unregistered.)
we see no errors on the 3CX server about any failed registration attempts for the "general voicemail" extension. (For example, logs show Ext 100 registered; but, the second Ext 200 manually bound to Ext 100s phone does not seem to even try to register.)
has anyone set this up successfully before that can please help us out? thanks!!
