Hello community,

The sound quality of the 3CX app is not really good. Especially in networks with higher latency for example LTE there is huge crackling during the call. In WiFi networks it seems better but the sound quality itself is far away from other apps like Acrobits Groundwire (example). I compared Opus and G722. I do not know, what they make better but there is no issue at all with the same codecs.

The problem is reproducible with all calls, also the easiest way from client to PBX (e.g. mailbox). It was tested with Android 9 OpenSL and AAudio (no difference). It is really pity because I favor the app with all its functionalities but for calls it is not the best solution. I also tried all things like disable Tunnel or Encryption, I am sure, that the problem is not related to settings. A further point which is more a feature request is the possibility to state different codecs for WiFi / mobile networks. This makes sense, so it would an option to use G729 only for mobile connections.

Does anybody have a similar issues with the 3CX app for Android 9 regarding sound quality?

My experience is, If you want good call quality, use alaw or ulaw. Using a different codec will (depending of your carrier - but most of the use alaw or ulaw) introduce transcoding inthe PBX. 3CX is not very good in transcoding. Even if you dont use your mobile to make calls with 3CX but a standard sip phone call quality will be worse then it could be.
