I have 2 separate customers on different 3CX installations that have reported that new Desktop App installs and upgrades are not working properly today on Windows 7. They both report that the installations complete correctly but when the program is run it never opens though it can be seen as running in task manager. They are using the web client temporarily.

See if it's opening off screen:
  • focus the app
  • Alt+spacebar to show the default Windows program menu
  • M ("move")
  • press any arrow key (this locks the app to the mouse)
  • move the mouse
  • click the mouse button to let go

Steve, thank you, but it definitely isn't running properly. One of the customers has IT support that already attempted that. Unfortunately there is nothing you can interact with - the only place it is seen running is in the task manager (not taskbar). But thanks for the response.

I'm afraid that Windows 7 is not a 3CX supported OS so it might be best that you give the Webclient a go instead. We can't really guarantee normal functionality there either but I think you have a better chance of getting it to work.

Windows 7 is not supported even by Microsoft.

You shouldn't let the customer run this. It's a security risk.

I was going to mention that but technically the Windows 7 ESU license is still available for this year, the final year. Since all three years are needed it's $600ish? Just get a new PC. :) Otherwise, yeah for most people it's already 2 years past end of security fixes.

After a quick search, it looks like Chrome stopped supporting 7 in January? And Edge last year. Not sure about other browsers.

same here with two older PCs of a client. Both with Windows 7. Previous Update 2 version worked properly. After updating it to Update 3 the app won't work.

I know about Win7 is a security risk. Told that the customer already several times. He insist in paying for security updates (afaik it is supported for this year only and will end then anyway) as he uses ancient sotfware that wouldn't run on Win10 upwards.

Chrome is still being updated regulary. So I made him use the Chrome App which still works well.

No need to invest time into Win7 compatibility. Just use the Chrome App workaround.

Agreed and that is the direction we are moving. Thanks everyone.
