This issue relates to a V20 instance of 4SC hosted by 3CX. Email is set to use 3CX's SMTP server.

I just spent 45 minutes with a new user trying to get them logged into their new extension. All extensions have a unique email address, and I have no problem logging in as a system owner. The new extension was set up 2 weeks ago and may have been logged in before, but I can't be sure. At first I thought the end user was doing something wrong, but it became apparent something was amiss with the 3CX password reset function - for that extension only. Here's the process I followed after checking the IP blacklist to ensure my IP was whitelisted:

1. At the login page, clicked the Forgot Password link and entered the unique email address [email protected]. No email came through - verified via Exchange message trace.
2. Entered a different extension email address in the Forgot Password field - email came through. Repeated for 2 other extensions - emails came through.
3. Sent a test message from my mailbox to [email protected] - email came through.
4. Changed the email address of the extension to [email protected] - no email came through - verified via Exchange message trace.
5. Changed the email address of the extension to [email protected] - no email came through - verified via Exchange message trace.
6. Created a new extension with the email address [email protected]. No email came through - verified via Exchange message trace.
7. Changed the email address of the new extension to [email protected] - email came through.
8. Deleted both new extensions and created a brand new one with the required ext number and used my email address to receive the new invite. Set the password, then changed the email address to [email protected]. Was able to sign in.

So basically, the original new extension would not send an email reset email no matter which email address I used - user domain or my domain. All other extensions were fine. This concerns me - it's possible that for no reason at all I could be locked out of a system owner extension with no ability to reset the password. Does anyone have any insights?

My first instinct would be to replace the SMTP server with yours. This way, you could at least determine, by checking the Exchange logs, whether the issue lies in the email trigger or the sending process, although your numerous tests suggest a triggering issue. This test will confirm your diagnosis.

Next, I would enable Verbose mode in "activity logs" and reproduce the problem again.

After that, I would perform an "export Support Info" and go through the logs in the support info to find any trace of the trigger failure, if that’s the case.
